Bought this yesterday, from an older couple in Cameron, MO. The husband said, "my wife wouldn't use it to wash dishes, only to hide candy from the grandkids..." He said it probably was ran 50 times maximum in it's entire life from when he built the house in the 70s, usually at Easter, Christmas or Thanksgiving.

One more

Was this a Hobart built unit? Why only one wash arm?

The 17 series was KitchenAid's longest running and most popular dishwasher model. A "hurricane in a box" was how they were described. Once you get used to loading the machine, allowing water circulation to the upper rack from the single wash arm, it's a powerhouse of a dishwasher.

Thanks

Gansky - thanks for the input. I really knew little about these older KA units.

EEEEEEEEK!

I have the KDI17. What a fabulous find! Looking for a KDS17 (like yours) to put in the kitchen.

Great dishwasher, and your racks look to be in pretty good shape. As Greg described - once you get used to the loading, they aren't so bad. I've got one in my kitchen. It sees some pretty heavy use!

Enjoy ---

It will!

Wash circles around ANYTHING built today, and a complete cycle is LESS than 1 hour!!

Thanks Everyone

Thanks norgeway, firedome, swestoyz, and steve 1-18,
..... for the info and advise on loading.

Does anyone know if the procedure of placing hot water in the tub for a couple of hours prior to start-up applies here as it has not been run in a long time?

Thanks
John

John.... it sure couldn't hurt! But probably 20 - 30 minutes should be good enough, it will cool off after a couple hours.

1972 KDI-17 KA DW

I just removed one that was lightly used yesterday from a one BR apartment where few of the residents over the years used a DW. It would be a fairly easy restore or good for parts. The porcelain tank and door are in excellent condition, it never had any repairs since the curent owner bought the building in 1975. To restore it would need new door springs, should also have a new pump main seal and inlet valve. Other wise this could run for many more years. Let me know if there is any interest in any or all of it. I would want $50 for the whole thing or major parts there of, or I will save a few parts and scrap the rest.

Hey John, I would be interested in as much as I could fit in the car when I come up. I'd really like to get my 17 portable going, but as you saw from the pics, it's a little hairy. Call me later if you get a chance.
