I happened past a John's Appliance Store in Palm Coast earlier this evening and found this Top Loader in the back. Since the store was closed, I could not ask if I could take it. I would like to get some consensus on it from those in the know if it is worth getting. Don't know what, if anything is wrong with it.Looks well cared for and the cabinet is clean all around.

I like that it has a Hot/Warm as well as Hot/Cold water selection on it.

The Model number is NA572IL
Serial number is: R1182432WM 582B(OR 8?)

Any way of telling its age?
(BTW, the bleach dispenser top is actually broken and I laid it back in place)

You'll have to wait for the experts here to advise if a Marathon machine shares the same bad reputation as the Raytheons do.

Maraton

I had a marathon once. so did my aunt. it was probably a model before that as it only had 3 temp options and only regular, perm press and delicate cycles. the reliabily was outstanding and that straight vane agitator does a helluva job! it packs a huge punch! if the dmage isnt bad, GO FOR IT!!! TAKE THE MACHINE!!!!

Marathon or Raytheon?

The data plate says it is a Raytheon unit. So should it be avoided?

Would any harm come to it if I laid it on its back to get it home? Less than a 2 mile ride.

Steve, it's possible that only the belt-eating Amana branded Raytheon machines are the ones to avoid.   That's what I had.

For free, you've got nothing to lose.  Just haul it back to the pile if things don't work out!

As long as it doesn't leak......your good to go.......not a bad machine, that agitator will kick ass with a load....they do have a bad rap, but if it functions, go with it......I have a matched set....the only thing wrong is worn belts, and I need a new pump, still available, just got them ordered on easyappliance.com.....

but if it doesn't work out for you .....get that agitator cap, and send it to me, please!

Lost Opportunity

Well, the store manager would not let me have it. He says that they have to take all machines they remove or are left at their location back to the main store for scrapping, recycling or refurbishing. So it went to Washer heaven somewhere. I should have just thrown it into the car and been done with it!
Thanks, everyone for the input on it and who knows, maybe someday I will find another.
