I saw some videos on the unimatic on YouTube, but I can't understand how the mechanism works.

Can anyone provide a cut-away diagram or explanation. I can see there is a "hilly plate" with a cylinder like thing attached that drives up and around and somehow makes the shaft jig up and down...

Use the search in this forum and you will find all kinds of illustrations and complete breakdown of the mechanism along with videos of it out of a machine and being demonstrated.
