I have sought help with this machine here before and received that help with gratitude.  Got this machine from a kitchen where it wasn't used, but the pump was sheared.  Everyone here helped me convert the drain manifold to a gravity drain and it has worked wonderfully for a number of years.

Now, the detergent dispenser doesn't open on the main wash.  Any leads on a replacement dispenser?  I opened the front panel and can't see any problem.  Might be the solenoid.  If anyone has a replacement for the detergent dispenser from a donor machine or any leads, let me know.

Unlocking the secrets

Nothing is wrong with his handle.. that is what it looks like when it is open. It is straight across in the horizontal position when locked.

And I will leave it at that! LOL

Solenoid Woes

If the dispenser is moving freely, than it could very well be the solenoid. if you are able, test it with a meter or 115 volt test lamp when it the timer calls for it to be open. If there is power and no movement, then the solenoid is bad. There are a few members on here who have a stash of parts for these workhorses so i am sure one or more of them will chime in to let you know if they have the part or parts you need.

I dug out the KA parts boxes last night and looked for the solenoid you need but only had the bad one I pulled from my KDS-14. There is one (three) on ebay, but a bit spendy.

Hi Fred!

My KDS 15 had the same trouble, I took the solenoid apart and took the plunger out and polished it with steel wool and it works like a charm...might be worth a try.

Hmmmmm, I'll have to remember that part number.  Those are the best detergent dispensers (because they are relatively small) for mounting on the side of the dishwasher if you are building a window-door dishwasher.

Yay Fred N, glad you found the part easily!  That dishwasher has been so fun to use at your house!

are real reputable, I have bought from them several times you will get a brand new part there. They are selling off old stock from their shelves.
He takes credit cards by email , I don't think he uses paypal.

Love that dishwasher, hope the Maytags recovered from the missile attack!
