~ Eugene, oh goodness no... and these are in MUCH better condition and they actually work! Also, I could NEVER justify spending that much for a washer & dryer, I have mortgage payments! LOL
~ Tom, how very poetic, I love it!
But.... Yes I finally have a PINK Maytag set! YAY! This post was last edited 05/02/2012 at 10:08 |

Introducing the 1960 142 washer & 641C dryer!
These came from Spokane, WA. The seller has had them the last 20 years, thinking he would give them to his daughters, however they wanted nothing to do with them. They are in amazing condition over all and when I plugged the dryer in, it was quiet, perfectly smooth, and heated quickly! The washer seems to work, but I cannot water test it yet as the hoses need to be replaced.
I MUST thank David (D-jones) for letting me know about this set AND bringing them down from Spokane. Yes you missed the Wash-In... but I think it was worth it! THANK YOU SO MUCH DAVID!

Beautiful! Now you need to get a turquoise pair to make the collection complete! I'm partial to the sunny yellow myself. |

You know Paul and Les... I actually had a 1959 turquoise Maytag pair a couple years ago... but Mr Maytag Man himself, Redcarpetdrew came down and PRIED them out of my hands, taking them back to Reno AGAINST my will!!!
(I think I should be ducking & running right... about.... now......)

Now, THAT is a line-up! I concur, you must repo the turquoise set, or find another. I love those big, honkin' dryers! You can tell this set was well loved. |

Now you need the Copper-Brown pair and the Turquoise pair, but the hardest pair to find will be the Charcoal Black pair. I know an older retired MT repairman who swears that he saw a MT all push-button pair in black years ago. The color is not in the MT parts lists so it may have been custom made?, this was in the same time period that Frigidaire and Hotpoint offered some version of black.
For our collection the brown CA900 and CDE750 will have to be sufficient to demonstrate this period of MT washers and dryers. If you run out of space you could do a pair of multicolored machines by using different colored lids, doors, tops, cabinets and front panels to show what was offered at this time period without filling your whole exhibit space with very average performing machines. |

~ John, I like that idea! Here at work we used to have a yard car which was used to test different paint colors, durability, etc and EVERY single body panel on the car was a different color! We used to call it "the clown car" LOL.
This is the turquoise set I had before Drew and is gang of 10.... er... 20... yeah, that's it... his gang of 20 hoodlums surrounded me, pointing their big knifes... er.. guns... yeah, that's it... pointed their big guns at me, then tied me up, gagged me and stole my beautiful turquoise Maytag washer & dryer! They threatened me and told me not to call the cops... er... the feds.... yeah, that's it... told me not to call the feds or the jig would be up and they'd come back and hurt me... er... murder me... yeah, that's it... they'd come back and murdelize me!

They are Fabulicious. I agree with getting the complete set.
And a backdrop of candy cane strips would pull it together.
I like these colors. So much better than the gray and toast of the mid 80s. blah

That really is quite a line up you have there. But what's up with that yellow dryer with a 'look at me' complex trying to hog all the attention. I agree with Eric. It really needs to be knocked down a peg or two.;-)
I had a lot of fun picking these up and bringing them back home with me. Everywhere I went with them in the back of my truck, people stared. You'd think they'd never seen a fifty two year old pink washer and dryer before. Thankfully, the trip home was uneventful, though when we spent the night in Redding, I woke up several times and couldn't get back to sleep until I'd looked outside to see that they were safe. Now that you have them cleaned up, polished up, and powered up, all I can say is WOW, those are pretty. Congratulations for nabbing such a stellar set, and hopefully you'll find the hoses you need for the washer quickly. I'd really like to see that running. P.S. It's very interesting to see the subtle differences in the sheet metal between the older and newer models in the line up, something that could easily go unnoticed otherwise. |

THANK YOU Gary, Paul, Les, Mike, W. Keith, John, Darren, Eric, Doug, Jon, Todd, Mark, Geoff, Erik, Leon, Jim David & John, for your very kind comments!
~ Eric & David: The yellow dryer is on the optional platform, you know like the new FL machines offer so you don't have to bend down so far....... um, not buying it? OK, it's on stilts and I forgot to remove them? Still not buying it? OK, how about I just didn't bother to lower the legs before taking the photos? LOL
~ Kelly: This washer is nearly identical to the pink Maytag I grew up with. The difference being ours was an A700, meaning it had the auto/cold rinse knob on the top of the control panel (that and it was a year or two newer then this one).
~ Ben: Only a few shades away from crazy?? WOW that is TOO FUNNY! LOL (but probably not far from the truth!) LOL
I was quite excited when all this came together, but it really hit me once they were in my garage! YAY!

It was the stuff of legend! You can still hear the story reverberate around the empty halls of Newton... Jacqui and I had come to Kevin's Big Wash In a while back and I saw those terq Maytags. I just had to have them! So, I looked for a group of hired thugs. All I could find was some Oompa Loompas who were staying at the Queen Mary for a Willy Wonka reunion. Time was short, so I hired them. They cost only half of regular thugs, anyway...
I got half of them to hold Kevin down while the rest loaded up the Maytags. In my haste to escape Kevin's high security washer compound, I was forced to leave the avacado GE's, a set of harvest gold Frigidaire's and a little Hitachi/GE portable washer! In retrospect, I should have taken my time as Kevin seemed to strangely be enjoying being held down by the Oompa Loompas but that's another story, possibly for the Dirty Laundry area... Anyway, he still has all that laundry. Holding it hostage. And now, he increased the security by getting that big, mean attack dog - Westie. Don't let the pearls fool you! That dog's dynamite! I ended up paying my thugs only half the money as they got only half the job done but in only half the time. Turns out a couple of them never came back. Kevin, are you holding them hostage in a closet or shoebox somewhere? RCD |

As I heard it, the Oompa Loompas only got half their assigned job done because the Ever-Lasting Gob Stoppers which were used as payment had exceeded their shelf-life and they were causing "issues" with the Oompas hair color. Little did they know that the 'stoppers had become contaminated by Kevin's previous running of a front-load washing machine with the door open...funny how that machine was still wired that way in 2012!
By the way Andy, the security pup is all for show. It's the webcam that is to be concerned about for security. As to the missing Oompa clan - I have heard but not confirmed reports that these are the culprits who stole all the Bazooka bubble gum from the nearby market, which was then used, reportedly, to re-cover the exterior of a WHITE set of Maytags to make them actually look PINK. Just sayin... G |

Is that what they were??? I thought there was something oddly familier about their orange skin, but it just didn't register. Overall it was a VERY scary and traumatic experience I would not wish upon anyone! I am so pleased and very lucky my life was spared! But of course I am still out a turquoise Maytag pair that would have been perfect next to this pink set! You bastard! Honestly I don't know why the hell we're still friends after all this! GEEZE!
You say a couple of them never came back? I wouldn't know anything about that, now would I? Besides, that's a risk you have to take when you hire thugs.... especially short, orange thugs. I have a feeling they've probably been put in some slave labor camp somewhere, probably making candies and chocolates.... since that is their ONLY skill set.

Even though Kevin and I were posting simultaneouly, he admits to the slave labor camp. I am sure that's how the Maytags got turned pink!

I was approached by a gentleman in a purple get-up just after I stepped off the plane with some kids with some bad spray-tan. They were looking for information on the great Wash-In of 2012. Said something about trying to reunite with some lost family, it was a sweet story. Sounds like someone's on to you, better be ponying up some missing orange kids of some PANK substitutes.
You know what they say about Oompa-Loompas...
Well? Do ya?
