It's got an interesting agitator. I find that Apex liked to experiment with the agitators in their wringers.

When you showed this in the other thread,

I was just dying to see the inside. The tub is perfect and the agi is like a mini-Apex Dasher. What a nice surprise! Hoping you appreciate how well-preserved this relic is. So glad you showed it.

Isn't that funny? Whenever I see a washing machine, my first thought is; "I wonder what the agitator looks like!" There are so many different styles, especially in a few of the odd wringer brands that aren't too common. This Wardway Standard is essentially an "Apex" in disguise, and Apex had some strange looking agitators.

#3 is the infamous mad "Dasher." Thanks. One of our members--forget who-- has a few Vids of this agitating on youtube. Be fun to see yours working.
Total agreement re: " I wonder what the agi looks like." Always, and that there are some weird mo-foes out there.

very nice wringer! Thanks for posting pics. My grandmother on my dad's side had two wringer washers and four stationary tubs in her basement laundry (she had nine kids) -- an ABC with angel wing agitator and an Apex with the spiral dasher.

Agitator 187-a

waterwitch's profile picture
It's interesting, there seems to be two type of agitators, 1.) They type that merely "Drags" the clothes back and forth, and 2.) The type that creates a current and "Tumbles" the clothes. The agitator vane design with the larger portion at the top in the Wardway is one such example that drags the clothes. I like the design of the 187-a that is pictured in the lower left, that would kick up a strong current, and I like the square base.

It was a pleasure meeting you too! I think Kevin should have a Wash-In at LEAST once a month, don't you think? Haha ;)

Umm... yeah... I'll get right on planning that!   LOL

The only problem would be I won't have the "turn out" of this wash-in.   Boy it was FUN, wasn't it??

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Waterwitch,  what year is your Apex parts book, please?  On agitator 195A, 141A,  very obvious on 197A,  what is that unusual tab at the top of the vanes with the hole in it.  I remember a family member having a similar machine, also  that strange little agitator cap made a "ting" sound while washing.  It is shown over to the right of the page, i cannot read the text.  Thank You.  alr

You're welcome, check out the video of the Wardway I just uploaded. Let me know what you think. It's my first attempt at filming one of my washers.
