Dish-Drawer Performance, Part 2!

After a pretty social week, and many photos of the DishDrawer in operation, I've decided to make a 2nd part to this thread. I've finally had a "breakdown" with the machine. Not bad, just someone forgot to take some dental floss of their plate, and it ended up in the draining side of the impeller, and caused the pump to not work... After lots of cursing and swearing (removing plates, racks, filter plates and sticky pumps) and got it all to work. Today, I'm not going to go into details about the washes, cycle progression, etc. And instead, I'm just going to upload photos to showcase the excellent results we've been getting. I will mention something though. We decided to have Quiche one night, and have a badly dried on pastry throughout the dish used to cook. After running a heavy cycle, it was CLEAN, despite my expectation that the dish would stay dirty. I didn't get any photos, but, damn! I wish I did! Without further ado, here I go!

*Deja-vu* I had just put mine on and was sitting here thinking how lovely and quiet it is.! Still debating as to whether I should change the bottom drawer for the one sat in the shed that has a water softener built in. I did the top one ages ago and its much more economical on rinse aid and detergent. but as I only use it as and when and as its not broken I am in two minds. :) Austin

*Dare I post More?* Chocolate pudding from a box dish in the wash, along with a sticky rice bowl, and bowls used for dessert. Will it wash?

Ok. I'll admit most of these were washed on the DishDrawer's Heavy cycle, which uses a 70�C/158�F main wash, and a slightly cooler 65�/149� final rinse. Cycle takes around 124 minutes, but time is reduced around 20 minutes because of the machine's hot connection (where I run the water hot for these loads). The heavy wash has the following cycle progression, in case you didn't know: Main-wash ~ Post Rinse [Not sure why they called it this, maybe "Post-wash Rinse?"] ~ Final Rinse ~ Residual Heat Drying (30 minutes). We usually use Normal wash, which has a main wash and rinse 20�C colder than the Heavy cycle, and that usually works absolutely GREAT. We use Finish Double concentrate powder, which comes in a 1.5KG plastic container. If you open the drawer around 5 minutes into the wash, the dishes are pretty much rinsed off, and only some grease remains. So the cycles could probably be cut down be around 25% (at least, to around 90 mins tops). On Sunday, after running Finish DishWasher cleaner through the machine, I noted this funny look on the cycle display... The top drawer tends to do this sometimes, and it's hard to know how long you've got left in the cycle. This picture doesn't do the "display error" justice... Note that At this stage, the Drawer is about 50% thru the final rinse.

*DISH-DRAWERS DWs* I glad you are getting good use out of you DDs and this is a good demonstration that they actually can work. But all in all you are using a lot of water and electricity and time to wash little loads that would only 1/4 fill one of my WPs or KA DWs. Thanks for Posting.

Honestly that's far from impressive, my dishwasher is able to shift such dirt in the quick 45 minutes 38�C cycle... plus it's really underloaded!

@combo52 No, its not a waste since we can cram more in that that, if we choose. The water usage is so low (6.7L/1.77 US Gal) that you are using half the water a modern dishwasher uses, and even less compared to the vintage machines used by others on the forum. We only need to run one drawer a day, sometimes two when there are some pots and pans we want washed - we don't pre-rinse and we always wait until we can't possibly fit anymore into the machine. The point of this post was simply to showcase the performance we are getting, not the sort of loads you can cram into the machine. We could also fit more in if we had smaller dinner plates, which would allow some to be placed on the angled racks to the left of the main plate space, but we don't, so it doesn't matter. By the way, once you learn these dishwashers, you can usually get 120% capacity compared to a normal dishwasher (when using both drawers, I believe), but since we're newbies to the DD, that hasn't happened, yet... @dj-gabriele As I mentioned, if you open the drawer about 2-3 minutes into the cycle, you'll notice that most of the soil is removed from the plates and only some grease remains. At this point, the detergent hasn't taken any effect. I also decided to run a rinse and hold with my video camera in a Pyrex bowl (with the lid, of course), and the wash action I observed is pretty good, moving lots of water @ high pressure... This dish drawer can move plenty of soil it it's 49 minute cycle. Haven't tested it yet, but ran that one last night for light soiled plates, lunch boxes etc. I will openly admit that we could have fitted more into the drawer, and my "thing" is just running dishwashers for the sake of it sometimes. But from what reviews have said, this machine is not capable of washing dishes of any sort with satisfactory results, so this is just "proof in the pudding." Now, I'm sure a member who also owns the DD (Dadoes, rapunzel etc) will eventually chime in on this subject, and "back up" my claims :D If you'd like, I will test the theory of using a fast cycle to move off fairly heavy soils. From my video camera in a bowl testing last night, the wash action is strong with this one! You can hear a racked if you open either of the drawers during operation, so the noise deadening in this machine is quite good. I'll also try "bob-loading" and see the result there. Finally, if you do look at some other posts, there are people who don't fully load the machines to their full capabilities, namely those with KA's, GE's etc from what I've seen...
