There seems to be alot on here about the restoration and resurrection of old dryers! I managed to acquire at the weekend a Servis Quartz Dryer which is in fantastic cosmetic condition. After a good clean round with a vacuum and brush and a test for earth and possible shorts with a multimeter, I fired her up and after about 20 seconds the main RCD trip went. Closer inspection shows that the heating element is leaking to earth and also the fan belt on the rear has stretched beyond function. I have a couple of questions that I wondered if I could ask the experts out there :)

Where is a good place to source a new halo of heat element and a new rear fan belt or compatible for this dryer?
Does anyone have any scans of the quartz instruction manual that was supplied with this dryer originally?
Thanks for any help :)

You are right Chris.

The machine looks in superb condition.

I am no expert electrically, so cant really help you there. I am sure that fan belts will be available for it - if you cant find one specifically for the Mk262, then also search for Mk261, Mk260 or Mk220.
All the above models are the same bodyshell as your Mk262 and I would have thought would be the same mechanically.

Other people have had experience with Servis Slimline dryers - if possible, maybe post some photos of the internals of the machine, so they can confirm or refute your machines similarity with othe models.

Really hope that you decide to keep the machine, whatever the outcome of repairs, and of course that you do manage to repair it.

Paul
p.s if seraching for Servis Mk262 throws up nothing, try dropping the 'Mk' bit from your search criteria. Though Servis generally prefixed their older machines model numbers with Mk, they dropped it from the mid 80s onwards. Indeed the washer below is Model 6027, withough the Mk.

Servis 262 Belts

Managed to track the fan belt down via Amazon believe it or not. The element is proving a little harder but I am sure there is a halo of heat element somewhere! The dryer works fine without the element connected but trips the minute it is connected so guess it has worn out.

element

Sorry bad news the element has been a obsolete part for years.

There is a chance though, I beleive these are the rectangular type elements with white ceramic mounting brackets.

Similar elements are available for Croslee style machines which would require some re-working but may fit.

Can you post a picture of the element and I can send you the number of a alternative.

Servis Quartz 262

I've ended up with this machine! I have replaced the fan belt as that was all that was wrong with it when I got it. But also the heater is dead because as Chris H says, it runs for 20 seconds and then trips the power. So I was annoyed that I wasn't told that the heater was broken...but I've managed to find a suitable heater for it. I've taken the old one out and that's as far as I've got. Can't wait to get the heater tho. So I think I'm the 4th owner of this dryer because if I'm right then the owners are...
1. The ebay seller
2. Chris H
3. the guy I got it from
4 Me.

Anyway, I don't think I'm going to get rid of it in a hurry yet! Looks great above the 3305. It's just where's the matching washer in Southampton now lol.

Cheers

Chris.

halo of heat elements

If memory serves me well are these the same as the Hoover dryers? They had heaters around the front.!

It may be a good idea for you to take the heater off and look and find any broken ceramic holders if none then the element itself has broke and is touching the metal frame.

If you wish to do a quick repair to tide you over just stretch the wire gently and then hook it over itself it will melt back into one after a while of using. Please note that this repair is only possible if it has only broken in one place if there are lots of breaks then you will have to wait to get a replacement.

Hope this helps

Austin

Chris,

I've got the Mk600 to match your dryer, if you email me, we can discuss the possibility of you getting your hands on it.

Because Craig...

A. I have too many machines, atm.
B. Because the Mk600'd be better off with its matching partner which Aquarius8000 has.
C. I now have a Quartz 6036G, from ZodaWash, so I no longer wan/need it, I originally got it off BoschLover1997, for my Uncle, but then he opted for a modern day Indesit.
D. I'm now holding onto it, until Aquarius8000's Dad allows him to have it, & I can take it down to him.
