The GE machines have always looked old I think. Indesit company now owns Hotpoint, so I reckon, Indesit company has informed GE Hotpoint is there's, after all GE only have it as a franchise. Because of this, they could be merging designs of the Hotpoint US Toploaders, with these units.

![]() I think this is typical.
I don't think that anyone, including GE, really wants to put any more engineering time and effort into conventional top loading machines when everyone is moving towards front loading machines. I think top loaders are in their twilight years... and I suspect that they most likely will look like this until they are taken off the market. The fact that the newly-engineered High Efficiency washplate style top loaders are having all kinds of issues will bring their death knell even closer. I think top loading machines are going to fill a niche market eventually. For those who simply can't have a front loader due to the design of their laundry room or for those who can't afford the more expensive front loader. (GE sells a $325 top loader here with plastic everything. Roper's machine is $275, but at least it has a porcelain-covered metal tub. I don't see how you can make a machine for much cheaper than that!)
