This is my last attempt to save my KA dishwasher (KUDS21SS1)! It works perfectly, except that a power surge killed the control board a few weeks ago. Have searched high and low and cannot find one. Any suggestions? Should I just give up and buy a new machine?

Does the circuit board work at all? If it does, then you can maybe put it thru its diagnostic check by following the directions on the tech paperwork inside the control area. It may help pinpoint what exactly doesnt work. Maybe just a blown relay or if you are adept at it, remove the circuit board and look for a burned out component or see if any wire traces have been burned away. If that happened, you might be able to solder in a new wire or wires to bring it back to life.
You may want to contact midwest timer service to see if they can rebuild the board. And last but no least, maybe John (combo 52) has a spare board hanging around.
You could actually convert the unit to an electromechanical unit if you find a donor machine or convince me to part my Monterey 21 out to you, which I may be willing to do if you feel you want to go that route.
Even when those boards were available, you were talking more than the cost of the whole machine so you can see why there are none left!

There are services that repair control boards. One that I've used is FixYourBoard.com. They handle more boards than just what's listed on their site. Contact them to ask about your situation.
push comes to shove you could make your own control board with your own programs as per this person in the youtube link. If you look at the video you will find a prject page the owner put up and a copy of the program he wrote for the Arduino board
