Hello All,
I recently joined and this is my first post.
I have a late 1960’s GE portable dishwasher that has a leak at the combination pump impeller/motor shaft seal.
I contacted GE online to get part#'s for the items I am seeing require maintainance and in particular the combination pump seal/impeller item which is the cause of the intermittant leak. This seal has the following info "Crane Packing Co. 1X 28" which I discovered with 1500 grit emery and by Google search is now the John Crane Co still making seals and in the USA.
After checking for 4-5 days GE’s online response was –polite and to be expected “…That is amazing that the dishwasher still works after 40 years. We believe this is a true testament to the GE Brand as well as to our consumers who take such great care of them.
I regret that the parts diagram and actual parts for this model are no longer available for this dishwasher.
We keep an inventory of parts for many years after the introduction of an appliance, but as requests for a part decrease, inventory is discontinued because national stocking and distribution become cost prohibitive.
Again, I am truly sorry we cannot provide this replacement part for you. You may wish to check locally with an appliance parts house or used appliance dealer
Appliance Specialist, Consumer e-Response Team. GE Appliances”

The Plastic screen just above the leaking seal has the following # 935 C443
The riveted aluminum tag information in the back is model# SM100B2-1A7
Serial# 08161

Motor is thermally protected.

One knob only –do everything Timer info:

Inlet Water inlet valve info:

(This item has the 'garden hose type' connection, The inlet valve solenoid bracket is G10 8 65 (date code of Aug 1965 ?? I don't know for sure) but the USA company is still very much alive.)

Motor Info:
General Electric

1/3hp 3450rp
115V 60cy 6.6A 1ph

JAR2 Thermal Protection

I remember The dishwasher being rolled into the kitchen in the very early 1970's
as it was the Noisiest appliance we had, and over 40 years even today when I finally found the origin of the leak, it is still just as Noisy.

The Lid inner has the circular blue 'deflector' with the words " *Jet-Action* " and " *Shower-Flo* in Blue ".

So, can anybody say if they have this impeller/seal that they would like to sell?-If I get a similar response from John Crane Co?
If not then I go with Plan D, ‘….redesign /machine new impeller to use 1/2hp Goulds water pump seal 10K10”
p.s. I sure would like to get the date code for this GE dishwasher and a Spare motor start relay #3ARR12KE83T, WD21X194-just in case.
Sorry for the LONG post.
Regards,
David

Second, Here is the Part Numbers page associated with the item numbers.

Once we determine exactly which part you need, then we can start searching some of our resources.

Crane Packing Co-Oooops The John Crane Co replies

Thanks for the offer Dishwashercrazy, Your two images set off an avalanche of positive leads, I'll take you up on it.
The John Crane Co has replied to my email with a request for pics and additional info. So I sent them the pics c/o Dishwashercrazy and some of the pics I will now post up.
Since the net seems to be on the slow side right now , the additional pics were shrunk in size

tub shot

racks were removed to grind and treat 3 rust blobs. Will need guidance on a suitable repair plastic to use as where the rusting was I can't use heatshrink tubing without cutting through the rack. Rusting on the top front panel is from the inside panel where the inner vent points to. Rusting on the bottom edges are also related to that same vent location. Some additional sheet fabrication may be required to solve that issue.

different style motor defector

This is probably why I needed to take off the front panel and look for the leak source while the unit was running with a flashlight, and it didn't start immediately either!

front panel off

thats all she has. Garden type hose connector only had a small drip leak.
It's the vent shute on the left in pic that contributed to the internal rusting on the front panel

Where there is one Dinosaur......

you might find another lurking around.
This is a current project I want to close off, subject for another thread.
But I need the nylon? circuit board EDGE connector, or at least the part number on the connector so I can verify the right one to get maybe from Molex? As when the machine was in the appliance repair guys place to troubleshoot circuit board issues, an employee recycled part of the harness by burning it for the copper wire when they gave up on solving circuit board problem.
So when I popped by looking for a spare beltdrive transmission to keep for my beltdrive at home, they made me an offer of buying this machine (motor and transmission) with a semi parted out 2nd machine with the same circuit board issues minus motor and transmission and a vandalized panel (only the aluminum front panel was missing plus the complete harness (c/o Mr. recycler)for free! The Green paint is overspray from painting other appliances inside the shop!
Once I get that Edge connector I can make up that part of the missing harness to supply power and start troubleshooting!
