Could you run one of these off of a dryer outlet if you changed out the receptacle? A NEMA L6-30 looks like a twist lock connector.. I bet one of these would cost about as much as a new economy car... |

Aaaaaack!!! I guess you would really have to be a dedicated enthusiast to be able to put aside enough money to buy one of these puppies. I wonder what the rated lifecycle of these machines are... They look beautiful..... |

Expensive, but you're right - sort of in the same league as the Little Giants (only bigger.) The electrical requirements could be a big lift, though - aren't they 2 x 240v or something like that? But at least they have a drain pump model washer so you don't have to jackhammer up your concrete floor to install a drain trench!!

Went down to the dealership yesterday to crunch some numbers. Seems the pricing detailed above was a little low. The Octo set would work out to around 12K in the end. Further, Miele is hesitant to sell the Octo set to residential customers because the child safety features were not built into it.
On another note, Miele Professional did point me to exactly the transformer they would use to configure the Little Giant dryer to operate on 240VAC. And it is less than $200. So now I am back to looking at the Little Giant set. Need to do some homework on how much involved an additional 240 drop to the laundry room would require. There must be a support group for people like me. Oh wait, its aw.org! Malcolm |

I have a Canadian Little Giant (PW6065) and it's wired for 240v single phase not 208v. According to my source, it is optionally available in 3phase but it isn't too common. |

My guess is these washers really aren't happy on anything less than solid and firm flooring such as concrete. So to avoid complaints from unhappy customers better to nip potential sale in the bud.
My Miele W1070 will make several attempts to balance a load, but if it cannot will simply launch the spin regardless, banging and clanging away. Happily one never leaves the unit unattended and thus am around to stop the machine and usually manually rebalance the load. If you look at the difference between say my Miele and other washers from that brand and say my Oko-Lavmat the differences in suspension systems is striking. Miele machines use commercial grade shocks which along with the cast iron cradle are designed to cope with forces generated by unbalanced loads. OTOH the Lavamat's suspension seems weaker IMHO but then again the computer programming on this machine will simply abort a spin if it senses a badly unbalanced load. That or it will do so at a very reduced speed to lessen movement of the drum. |

Why not just ask Miele again and point them to that video? I guess, this move could move them a bit? |

Hi Malcolm,
When I worked at Miele, I was part of the Professional for the Home project. These machines had to be approved for home use by getting an energy and water label on them. Also the power had to be single phase 240 V, 25 amp to keep the running times short. A set with the pedestals here in oz sets you back $14K. |
