Look closely at the right side of the lower rack in the permanently portable model. Does it look like everything to the right of the plates down the center is racked so that it is facing the side of the tank instead of the center? While I can't see as much of the left side of the rack, it looks like at least some of the items are facing the side wall also. Who would allow that? Shouldn't someone from Hobart have caught that?

I noticed that! At least in the KitchenAid, they have a slim chance of coming clean.

Cookie sheets and the top part of the broiler pan are items that I carefully rack so that the dirty surface leans out toward the tank so that the scrubbing jets from the ends of the wash arm really have a good aim for best cleaning. They lean over at least one row of pins and I make sure that the raised lip at the end of the cookie sheet is placed at the front of the rack so that it does not scrape the porcelain as the rack is pushed back in.

Hmmm... Likewise, the portable top-loader shows those chunky teacups loaded sideways...  I am not sure even a Superba Vari-Cycle could cope with that!

Put it to the test!

 I caught the loading faux pas but is it really an exaggeration?

I know there are many members who have Kitchenaids with single wash arms and swear by them. Some even swear at them!

Why not duplicate one of these loading scenarios with a Bob Load of dishes loaded as seen in the print ad and see just what happens? Nobody should be upset if the results are less than stellar. Those machines were what they were and anyone who had one, including my family made do with them and their limitations. It was a luxury enough to have any brand of dishwasher in the 60's and 70's and earlier. Expectations were lower back then and yet most machines did a decent job once the users adjusted to the quirks of any particular unit.

So, load your one armed wonders up with a nice load of dishes and let 'em rip and roar and report back with before and after pics of your efforts!

Steve, we have already conceded that it would probably wash the mis-racked items. The point is that it is not loaded properly; not loaded according to the use and care manual and we are wondering how Hobart allowed that loading pattern to appear in an ad.

And no apologies need to be made for their performance. One year between Christmas and New Years, I called a friend to see if he wanted to do something. He said he couldn't because he had to wash all of the dishes that had been accumulating in the sink for a week while his parents were out of town. My parents were out of the house so I told him to load them in a big pail and bring them over and we would put them in the 15 so he did and was amazed that all of that junk, dried and otherwise washed off the dishes. The machine was really loaded, too, but there were no pans.
