I was in Big Lots! the other day and got another good example of why people don't bother repairing appliances anymore. They had what appeared to be a TOG GE dishwasher with electronic controls and a THREE level wash for $198. Granted, it was a big hunk of plastic, but I imagine hard to resist if one if on a budget.

Cheap appliances are also the reason one hardly sees second hand appliance stores anymore. Time was washers and dryers were either sold to second hand shops,or passed to a family member who was without. But that was when "major appliances" were just that, today very few probably out live credit payments, or need major repairs soon after the warranty expires.

Theres some "second hand" appliance places out here-or "swap shops" as one is called.Guess where some of the "cheap appliances" end up---at the swap shop.the owner replaces it with a better one.Wonder how long the "Big Lots" GE dishwasher will last??Would it end up at the swap shop a few years later-or the "Krusher"?

I got a fancy GE *Triton* DW (fancy Greek word for "Third" as in a third filter. SAME POS as their BOL machines bur with an electronic control panel, but I digress..)for $75 buck NEW at the Homo Depot. I figured they forgot a "1" or a "2" in the front of the price.

It has a dent in the access panel and was dusty beyond belief. The machine was clearly new and unused, but some slob probably leaned over it (while the door was open) with a hotdog and a coke. There were remnants inside.

For a POS plastic machine that is a water hog, I have learned to love it; wash tower and all. (The big stuff fits on top very nicely.) At least the silverware rack is on one side, rather than in the middle.

Hi all:

While at Thanksgiving my sister-in law brought her NEW dishwasher to my attention. She hates it so much, she wants me to help her get a real one. Did not get the Model Number, but it is a tall tub and of course plastic. Not electronic control, and zero cleaning ability, even after rinsing dishes.

Why so much GARBAGE?

Steve
