Hey guys, I don't post here often because I usually stay on the vacuum cleaner side of appliances, but I just ordered a new washer and wanted to tell you guys about it and get feedback. I have a one bedroom apartment with no hookups and for several years now, I've been getting buy with an Edgestar ventless combo front loader. Lately, the pump has been making an awful noise. It started about a year ago, and it only happened on the drying cycle, so I just stopped using the drying cycle, and started drying the clothes on a drying rack with 3 fans pointed on them... much faster than a ventless dryer! Less wrinkles too. Well, now the pump has started to make the dreadful noise even during the wash cycle when it is expelling the water.

I've usually used the public machines at the complex since they are right outside my door, and just used mine to supplement. The common machines have all been broken for about 5 months now and the apartment complex doesn't seem to care, so I've been relying on my own a lot more lately. I know that the company that made the Edgestar machines has gone out of business or at least stopped producing washers (that's what Edgstar told me). I'd always planned on getting an LG combo unit when mine died, but I actually made a different decision. I just didn't want to spend well over 1000 dollars, and didn't want another combo unit. I also didn't want another front loader, just because they take so long. I do enjoy watching them wash... :o) After reading way too many reviews, I decided to go with the Haier pulsator washer and matching compact dryer. I ordered them online for less than 500 dollars, and they should be here in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited :o)

It will be nice to have to separate machines that I can run simultaneously. I know the dryer has some limitations because it's not 220, but I think it's got to be better than the Edgstar was... especially if I don't over fill it and if I keep the lint trap clean. I still may well use the drying rack and just use the dryer to supplement if I have a lot or am in a hurry. I don't have a vent, so I'm going to have to buy one of those water trap contraptions or just put a net stocking over the exhaust or maybe place it near a window. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

I also have to decide if I should try to mount the dryer on the wall or get some kind of stand for it.

I feel like I'm downgrading... I'm going from a front load washer with dispensers and built in heater to a top loader with none of those things.... I'm going to have to add my own bleach, detergent and fabric softener at the right times (guess I'll be buying a downy ball) and I'll have to control the water temperature from the tap. It should be OK, because my water gets super hot. So, even if it is technically a downgrade, it is what is practical for me, and I will likely get more benefit from this set up than the previous one.

Anyway, just wanted to share with you all and see if you had an tips for getting the most out of these machines. I will likely make a video of the machines in action (well the washer at least, the dryer doesn't have a window) once they arrive. I already have one of the Edgstar on my youtube channel. I think it is wrong to be this excited about a washer.... it doesn't have an inflatable bag or crevice tool or headlight or anything! :o)
