Good Morning Friends;

I just bought this dishwasher and was wondering if anyone could tell me age/info on it. I never so one with a vent on the front below. Where are the controls? Sorry, i don't have it in my posession yet. Pick it up this Saturday.

Thanks;
Graham

The controls,

such as they are are the door lock and the push button to the left.

That's all, folks!

This is much earlier than the 1950s, but yes, the only control is the start button. There is no detergent dispenser. One of these was in the cold pantry part of the kitchen in the Callanwolde mansion in Atlanta. I saw it about 1971 or so when it was the Atlanta Symphony's Decorator Showhouse. I will have to do some research.

A neighbor during my childhood . . .

. . . had this model Hot Point dishwasher -- or one very close to it. You load it, shut and latch the door, mash the button . . . and that's it.

On the one I remember and used, the upper rack did not slide out on its own. It simply sat on top of the lower rack. You remove the upper rack and set it on the drainboard of the electric sink, load the glasses, etc in it, then place it back on the lower rack.

The neighbor would set the minute timer on her Hot Point stove for 20 minutes. When the timer buzzed, she would open the dishwasher so the dishes would air dry and not use so much expensive electricity.

If the water was HOT, it would do a pretty good job.

Notice how similar the racks are, especially the upper rack, to the GE top load DWs of the same period.

Also!

What company today would put stainless steel racks in a Dishwasher!! ??/! None, because they WANT it to wear out!!! this kind of quality is GONE!!

Usually, what looked like stainless steel was chromed brass. I have an example, somewhere, showing the plating wearing thin.
