I actually thought something might be wrong with that valve, but then again, you wouldn't let something like that go unattended and unresolved for long. Wonder why they swaddled the machine with something like that?

Somebody stop me if I have this story scrooched. By the 60s Whirlpool, GE and Maytag had captured upwards of 90% of the market with superior advertising and distribution. As market leaders they had also kept their plants (relatively) up to date where the also rans like Westinghouse had not.

By that point the smaller sellers couldn't afford to advertise, distribute, update and also remain price competitive or profitable. They tended to get gobbled by.... well, gobblers like White. Easy got gobbled by Murray which in turn got gobbled by Hupp (IINM). Gobblers tend to bring nothing to the table except maybe some idle machinery they use to build miscellaneous stuff of little integrity. So the obscure brands become even more so and the gobblers go "hmm, we kinda fudd that up" and either chuck it or go out of business themselves.

You all will undoubtedly roll your eyes at me with a "DUH!" but what is the purpose of the cage at the top of the tub? To me it just looks like it was destined to catch buttons, zippers, etc of anything that got within reach.

Celui-la n'est pas un pissoir (regarding the pee stream up the thread).

It is exactly like the stream from the fill faucet on the Spindrier. Maybe Cecil B. will show us a shot of the Easy Spin filling and edit the streams side by each.

Jon, was this, 1956, the first year for the Easy Automatic?

The earlier model had a toggle switch for hot/warm temps, but I think the cycle layout was the same.
.
And is that pee-stream fill for real? It keeps up with the timer?

Kinda like the massive paddles on the Norge, there is no escaping the Spiralator in that tub!

the pee stream is for real, it is a copper hose bent to a drip pan and it is aimed right at the Spiralator. There was no sign of any attachment that might have fallen off in history so I am thinking it was designed just like the Spin Drier like Mikey pointed out.
And even the lime scale build up on the drip pan was in the shape just where the water flows today.

So I am gonna stick my neck out and say the pee stream is factory.

As I remember, Gibson (which at that time, made refrigerators. freezers, A/C's, dishwashers & ranges) was also acquired by the Hupp Corporation, only to be acquired by WCI, which eliminated the "Easy" brand name, and went with "Gibson" for laundry appliances..

What an exquisite and perfect restoration. I love how you went to the trouble to scrub clean the outer water container, repaint the cabinet inside and out, and polish up all the chrome. These are steps that some people skip.

I also love your video editing. What program is that you're using?

Bravo!!! You win the trophy.

Excellent restoration Jon, thats one heck of a Spiralator, does a great job of churning the clothes about, interesting Tripod system within the circular frame once you take the outer tub away - was this unique to easy??

Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike

jetcone's profile picture
no this was the Beam machine system a very good one too, shared by Easy, early Speed Queen and a few other brands. It's a very cool mechanism, the large silver disk is a fluid drive coupling just like on your automatic car torque converter. The 3 legs out to the ring are the stabilizers/dampers. Once you get the outer tub off the whole mechanism just lifts out for service.

All the switching is done by solenoids YAY! Love Solenoid Robots!

The Fluid drive produces smooth accelerations and quiet operation as you can see in the vid, and it was also used on the "doodle-bug" scooters during the war when gas was nonexistent.

It has hot wash and warm wash ( which is really hot too!) and warm rinse and hot spin spray!! With the lid open it steams up the other machines.

The mother of a childhood friend in Woburn had that very machine and was very nice about letting me watch it run. This was around 1967.Thirty years later I saw that machine in front of the house out on the sidewalk where they used to live still looking pretty good, funny if this is the same one.

Jetcone  that is a well done job on both the restoration and the video..  I wonder what year the fill flume moved to the 7 or 8-o-clock position.  I know from my mom's "mat" experiences that the "front fill design" would often give people a surprise if you pushed the coins in with the lid up.   Very well done,, Thanks for the pictures and the very well done vid.  arthur

Outer tub gasket

Jetcone hi. On the third picture you show one kind of outer tub gasket, and on the 4th picture ir was replaced with a very different one, could you please tell me where I can get one of the second type. I have a Mexican Easy Golden Line washer, which uses de first kind of gasket, and itīs starting to leak, but since itīs a very old washer, itīs really difficult finding parts. Another thing I would like to know, what kind of paint should I use for the outer tub since mine has started to rot on several parts, so I would like to paint it with some sort of epoxy water proof paint, or what do you suggest???

the gasket I used was from a Speed Queen washer,I'll dig out the part number they are still available.

For rusty drums I use a product called "Extend" which you paint on and actually bonds with the rust and changes it so it stops rusting. Have used it for years with excellent results.
