In the late 70s, I managed to track down the United States Testing Co. and wrote to them asking about some of the tests that used to be referenced by number and date in ads such as this one, asking if it was possible to buy reports from them. They did write back, but told me that the test results were only released to the companies that paid for them. That made me wonder about the value of the testing because all the ad states is that it underwent comparison testing, not even how well it emerged against other machines. Even if it had only one feature that was judged better than that of the other machines, a manufacturer could say that it tested out better than the competition and no one outside of the manufacturer and this secretive testing lab would know the truth and the wording of the areas of excellence could be "spun". I'm not saying the Combomatic might not have excelled in three areas, but would have liked to have been able to see the test results.
