I grew up with one of these

A real powerhouse dishwasher.  I'd give anything to have one now.

The Filter sitting atop the D/W in the Photos

Does that protrude into the tub area, or is it inverted and fits into the sump?

Looks like a very nice, low mileage dishwasher. I'd be glad to have one!

However, it looks like there is some caked detergent in the dispenser... Perhaps someone forgot to run the dishwasher at some stage, and ended up just running a rinse-hold to get rid of any soils inside the dishwasher.

The only other thing I can think of to say about is that racks: I find the top racks in those KA machines to be slightly on the ugly side. They also look like they may not hold lots of stuff in them...

Good find Jon and Greg, the machine does indeed look to be in good shape, hopefully it needs little or nothing in the way of repair.

Top Rack Capacity, this is one of the great things about these DWs, in fact you can easily get more in just the top rack of this DW than you can get in the standard size F&P Dish-Drawer and it will get cleaner in about 1/2 the time.

@combo52

Seems like your prejudiced against my DD!

I can cram that DishDrawer, if I want. We're not too concerned about that though. The "general" idea is that DD's have 60% of the capacity of a regular machine per drawer.
Also, bear in mind the reduced fill. Recently however, I've been using the Delicate cycle with great results. It includes an extra "secret" rinse, if you saw my "Naughty DishDrawer" topic. That cycle takes just 60mins, without the natural drying period, which is pretty reasonable for me. This is the same temp as Normal, but at lower pressure. Can't say I've had bad results at all.

But yes, looks can be deceiving! The KA rack doesn't look like it holds much, but I take your word for it.

P.S. You don't have to load the way F&P says. I fit glasses between the two main folding tines area, and I do pile things up somewhat to squeeze extra dishes in (they still wash), when I need. Unless we had a DD, we would never have had enough plates to run the dishwasher every two days. At least now, we have 16 plates, 8 that fit in both drawers, 8 that just fit in the top drawer. The newer ones are almost like plastic plates!

But I suppose I am biased too!
I've never had a KA, and probably never will. It would be great, if we didn't rely on plastics so much. If we didn't have plastics to dabble with (and just 6 cereal bowls), the DD would run every 2-3 days, but alas, that doesn't work!

Despite never having a KA, I can say based on video's I've seen these dishwashers could strip paint off a house. Especially if you put in a redesigned wash arm with lots of tiny holes in them. That would make one heck of a Dishwasher, and would probably ruin all our plates glazing (most of our older stuff is getting like this, even with a DD. No tarnishing though!)

Fabulous now you can replace that semi-modern dishwasher at Cape-Cape and have a real machine there! Dishes clean and dry in no time flat!

KA top rack capacity is ginormous!

Filter question: The filter sits down inside the sump in the position shown and the 4 way Hydrosweep wash arm fits on the wash arm support that rises through the circular top opening.

This was a great find - searching Craigslist works! The lady we picked it up from asked us about a new dishwasher and we told her that our friend John (combo52) was in the biz and at a recent trip to Home Depot last week, was pretty impressed with the LG dishwasher.

This machine was in very nice shape out of the truck. Just the visual inspection phase, it needs the standard parts and service that any machine this age would need - new wash-arm support, wash arm and I would probably do a new pump seal kit and thorough cleaning & detailing of course.

Good month for finding KA's

I found mine a couple of weeks ago--thanks to a link in this club!! Yours is a beauty!

The big filters that goes around the pump has always reminded me of the robot in the old TV show "Lost In Space" for some strange reason. Every time I look at one outside of the unit I think of that robot. Weird, I know!

Good luck!

The racks were in nearly perfect shape, but the cutlery basket will need to go. Love this "what's in the drawer" repair. Twist-ties from garbage bags - when just tape won't work! LOL Should post it to thereifixedit.com!

OK, I'll bite. What differentiates this model as a 'Patrician'? Were there KD20's that were not Patricians?

@Cadman there were KD-20's other than Patrician.

whirlykenmore78's profile picture
The KA 20 series consisted of 4 built in models. The names and model No's are as follows in descending order from TOL
1. Superba (KDS-20)
2. Patrician (KDP-20)
3. Imperial (KDI-20)
4 Custom (KDC-20)

There were also at least 2 portable models in this series. A Superba and an Imperial IIRC.

I saw you open an LG at Homo Depot and say this was a pretty good machine but the service network was so bad you'd never touch or recommend them. Was I hallucinating?? I almost fell over too!
You despise LG.

Was it the missing Lance crackers in my closet???

The main difference between the Superba & Patrician in the 20 series was the Patrician did not have a SaniCycle.
