Hi guys! My old friend John Buscemi has some issues with his old Kitchenaid dishwasher. I'm not sure which model is it exactly, but it seems that the motor died. That machine is very special for him becuase his mother bought it when he was a kid (he's on his late 50's or 60's now). It's also special for me because thanks to it we met each other a few years ago and later he came to Brazil on his vacation, a few years ago and we had wonderful times together. Well, I told him to keep the machine. he bought a second hand Maytac (modern one) and the litle KA went to the basement waiting for the AW's Salvation Team. Probably next october I'll be visiting him and I'd love to make him a surprise. I'll have very few days (maybe less than a week) to fix that machine, but I'll need as much help as possible. Instead of simply fixing the damaged motor, i thought about doing a full restoration. Can you help me? Of course only a few days isn't too much time to gather all the parts, etc, so I'd love to find someone living close to him that really understands about machines (he's not too much into appliances) that could visit him to check the model and the real situation of the machine. It will give me almost two months in advance to search for the parts. Also, during the restoration, I'll need some help first because I never opened a vintage KA dishwasher and I'm not used to it. Second because I HATE doing things alone and at least four hands are much better than only two. Also, I'd love to meet personally more people from AW.org My plans are Boston Lynn for about a week, plus 4 days in NYC, maybe 2 days in Reading (some friends told me that the be$t outlets can be found over there) and then more 7 days in Chicago before flying back to Brazil. I also need some information about nice places to buy clothes (Outlet stores, etc) but later I'll create another thread on the proper forum for this information.

*More info needed, Thomas* Is there any way you can supply the model number for your friend's Kitchenaid Dishwasher? That is the only way any of us can offer any assistance to you in the way of advice, parts or manuals. There are many of us on here who may have any and all the parts you may need to get it working again but we need to have the basics before we can do anything. Steve

*@stevet* Thanks for your reply... Well, I don't have any info (except that it's a Kitchenaid and it's more than 50 years old). My friend John Buscemi also doesn't have any idea about the model number and he's not "into" machines at all. (Actually he knows how to use it only... maybe). That's exactly why I'm paging people near Boston/Lynn MA to see if somebody can phone him and schedule a visit only to check the model and the situation. This would give me much more time to start gathering parts and knowledge as I'll have too less time when I visit the U.S. My plans are Lynn, NYC, Reading and maybe other cities around in 12 days (15 days at the most, 5 days in Lynn) He called KA's service. Of course the repairman simply looked at the machine and less than a second later he said he should send it to the crusher and buy a modern KA dishwasher, blah, blah, blah. Aparently, the motor simply lost it's pressure during a cycle, but it stills humming. I saw a KA DW centuries ago, honestly I don't remember it's mechanics. Can a coffee spoon or a bone or other foods clog the pump? What are the most common problems? Anyway, after 60 years of use, of course it must have some wear and other signs of it's age. I'd love if I could restore it completelly to my friend. (this will be a surprise. I said only that I'd find a way to make it work again.

*How about a picture?* Thomas, Can you get him to take a picture of it? That would definitely help. All the Kitchenaids from day #1 had filters in them that would have prevented a spoon or other large item from getting into the pumping mechanism. I have seen pumps that had frozen due to lack of use and their motors would just hum until the internal overload cut them off. But once freed up, they usually worked fine again for years unless the owners had allowed the motor to simply cook itself to death. Any info at all from him will help. I am sure you could persuade him to humor you and send a picture without ruining his surprise.

*Old KA DW* As Stevet suggested you have to get more details to us to help, pictures would be a big help and if he is not willing or able to fix it himself, someone should be prepared to spend $300-1500 dollars to restore and reinstall this DW.

*Perhaps I Can Help (?)* I'm not super savvy with appliance repair, I'm inquisitive and detail oriented, with a pretty severe case of OCD, that has fixed and restored many items when I've needed to-But I am primarily self taught with web help! I do live in Salem, MA though, about five minutes from Lynn. I thought I'd offer to look at the machine for you and answer any questions you may have about it, If that helps you at all. I could even use Skype on my phone to webcam with you when I check out the appliance if that makes up for any shortcomings I may have in giving you an mechanical estimation of the units condition. Let me know if that would be helpful or if you can think of any other way I might be able to assist you since I am so close to the location of the unit your interested in.
