![]() My Favourite Fabric Conditioner/Softener has to be Lenor Pure Care Orange Blossom, because it has a really nice tropical fruity orange scent, and when the clothes are dry it gives off a light fresh Orange scent, which isn't overpowering in the slightest. I used to use Lenor Spring Awakening (Downy April Fresh in USA) but recently Ive found the scent to be very overpowering because it has the extended perfume capsules in.
My Softeners in Order of Like 1. Lenor Pure Care Orange Blossom 2. Comfort Tropical Burst (Orange) 3. Aldi Ancosoft Naturals Macadamia & Almond. 4. Comfort Blue Skies 5. Fairy Naturals Fabric Softener (Almond Milk and Honey) I cant stand any of the Comfort Exhilarations or Lenor Infusions Softeners, they are too strong, and I like light fragrances.

A second vote for Gain AMT I also really like Gain Apple Mango Tango. Currently have it in liquid and dryer sheet forms. Used in conjunction with Gain Island Fresh detergent (or even the Original scent) it just makes bed linens smell so dreamy. Another one I really like is Comfort Pure from the UK. It has a Dove soap kind of smell that's very soothing.

![]() I for some reason, can't use Gain softener. I normally don't have sensitive skin, but the Gain makes me break out and itch something fierce. And it sucks cause I like the scents that Gain puts out. The detergent I can use with no problem, I just can't use the softener. And that's the only one that irritates me, I can use anything else out there, but that.

I also like the morning sun suavitel, it is inexpensive as well. $1 for a small bottle at Dollar General. I only use the recommended amount for a small load. The scent is quite strong.

I prefer Downey Free & Clear when I want a little softness but no stench. I also like Tide Free and Clear. What happened to Tide Free and Clear Coldwater? Does anyone know? I bought it a few times and then it disappeared.

Have A Stash Of Boutique Fabric Softeners![]() Caldrea and Doux mainly. Then there is a case lot one got very cheaply of commercial fabric softener for those trips to the laundromat (this stuff does make things dry faster, better to deal with the not beyond dripping wet laundry that comes from the washers), however normally don't bother with the stuff.
Purchased and loved Downy Free & Clear FS, but the stuff like many other Downy liquids has finite shelf life. Found that out when purchased several bottles with a "free" coupons awhile back. Since one does not use FS often and even then not very much the bottles sat sitting for over a year or so. Gradually they turned to a gloppy curdled mess. When one contacted P&G and gave them the serial numbers from the bottles they were able to determine the manufacture date. Was then told most Downy liquid FS have a shelf life of about a year more or less, after that things start to happen. Usually am that well pleased with the scents from my vintage detergents, along with various European things in my stash (Ariel "Alpine Frachie", Persil au savon de Marseille, and OMO that really don't want any extra fragrace from a FS, thank you very much. Aside from a bit of vinegar in the final rinse water that is about it. L.

![]() I also don't use fabric softener. I sometimes try it--particularly for towels that are air dried. But it doesn't make enough difference to make it worth it. Plus I have the stench of most fabric softeners today. And I have concerns about the chemical residues. One of the last times I used softener, I had a noticeable increase in skin issues.
The only one I didn't dislike or hate was Ecover. Mild scent, no problems with my skin, and, if I recall right, it was said to be more environmentally friendly. But the regular daily price makes me gag, and I've seen it at only a store I seldom get to (maybe once every few years).

I use![]() the same Pink liquid softener as my fellow member in the neighboring state of KY that comes in the gallon jug branded Big Value. It does the job of both static cling and softness without leaving any residue in the washer or on your clothes. I do use 3/4 cup when it calls for 1/2 cup because I use a Maytag wringer washer and rinse in it. The tub is huge so just figured it may need a bit more. This softener is only 1.99 here for a gallon. Also, there is no more buildup in the dryer where the clothes rub on the inside. Just my way of softening clothes. I know we all have our favorites and amounts. It smells like I remember the old Stay Puff did my Mom used years ago.

![]() I bought a jug of Amway white fabric softener a while ago from a co-worker. Expensive as Persil products but it was good stuff. I can't judge, the way a lot of you can, things like residue. I usually go for the smell and whether it eliminates static or not. Unfortunately, I've heard that Amway is an intolerant, conservative-humping company and, until I am convinced otherwise, won't give them any more of my business.
No fabric softener that I've ever used has made much difference when the clothes are line dried. They always end up stiff unless I'm lucky enough to line-dry on a nice windy day.

Fabric Conditioners/Softeners![]() Do have a purpose on laundry day for many domestic users, and a majority of commercial laundries.
When properly formulated and used modern liquid fabric softeners do not decrease the absorbency of cotton or linen fibers. Because they act to smooth fibers they can decrease the amount of creasing from the final spin process and or allow the ones which do form to be easily ironed out. Fabric softeners also make tumble drying faster as they cause textiles to "repel" water. While taken to extremes of old yes one could end up with waterproofed fabrics, again modern TOL products wash out with the next laundering. In combination with sours, bacteriostatic properties and several other final rinse additives (excluding starch and often bluing) fabric softeners pay a certain role for commercial laundries. If nothing else by allowing textiles to dry even a small percentage faster adds up to savings over the course of hundreds of loads dried per month.

Thing With Moi![]() Is that many of the detergents in my stash already leave a wonderful scent on laundry, so why mess with a good thing?
Strictly speaking FS really isn't necessary. Most modern detergent powders aren't nearly has harsh as some of stuff of old, and the liquids certainly leave things feeling soft on their own.

I have taken to blending a Downy Free refill and an April Fresh refill in a large Downy bottle. I always use softener in every winter load, except for kitchen towels, and I only use it for underwear and bath towels in summer. Fabric softener makes me happy. For those who are content without using it, fine! Lawrence/Maytagbear
