Hey Pierre,

You're from Canada... Ontario? Quebec?

I am from Quebec city .

My answer to your question would be:

1) Some of the vintage (circa 1960's-70's) Maytag washer and dryer

or

2) Hitachi twin tub (ca 1970) coupled with portable Hoover dryer..

Due to the generosity of a fellow club member I have them.  I think I prize these two above all others because of the color.

I wish I had my mom's almond Maytag that I bought for her in 1992! Two speeds, 4 wash/rinse temperature combinations (Hot/Warm, Hot/Cold, Warm/Cold, Cold/Cold; no Warm/Warm) and a vertical slide lever for the infinite water level control!

A reg. cap. w/ lg. cap. features! It had a bleach & fabric softener, as well... There was a flood in the basement in 2003, after which it kept blowing fuses, so it got replaced w/ a matching TOL Maytag washer & dryer set in 2006; the old white reg. cap. Maytag dryer which had two temps, Reg., Perm Press & No Heat settings and was Timed Only; No Automatic Drying...

Then again, if only I could go back to that avocado Bradford washer & dryer set just to see what REALLY must'a been wrong with it & what my mom just admittedly did not like, but my dad had to but it 'cause he worked for GRANT'S...

The washer for it at least got replaced w/ a 3 water level/3 temp. Reg. & Perm. Press 2 Cycle 1 Speed white Maytag, that we'd gotten rid of to make way for that newer one in almond...

I would need all 3 of these and not in any particular order.  Juyst want them in my daily laundry arsenal.  WCI65.  Although these are RickR's 66 set, they're identical in basic look of panels and cycle/option buttons.

A Custom Imperial 1/18 but it has to be the year that the 3-speed for ex-slow agitation was offered.

And finally

appnut's profile picture

Maytag 806 or 808 pair.  My preference would be the versions of the 806 Center dial that had the big load dryer.  Reason being?  I prefer the better functionality performance and flexibility of the dryness control buttons as well as regular and delicate heat setting buttons.  Not sure there wass any version of that Big Load dryer that had a lighted control panel.  Although I'd take the older D806 dryer too if that was the only way I could have lighted control panels.  I love vintage, but if I had my choice, I'd opt. for best performance and flexibility asnd functionality of what the product line offered in its run.  And in these examples, they're the best as far as I"m concerned.  Maytag and Frigidaire being my most favorite.  Probably because these are the two brands my parnts would have never bought when I was growing up.  And I've already "lived" with GE, Norge, and Kenmore--ho hum.

And did anyone notice they're all TOL?  Why compromise lol.

And thanks goes to RickR and PhilR for having photos of the machines I could have a representative of what I'd want.  And since I love front loaders, would ahve to make space for a TOL 1957 Bendix Duomatic somewhere in the dwelling lol.

For me it would be the set in my profile picture.
The TOL General Electric Filter Flo washer with mini wash and matching Timeline dryer, this is the set my grandmother got new in 1966 and had until 2001, I was absolutley in love with this set.
Oh, I'd prefer the washer to be a Suds Saver if possible

For Me....

....It would be the '65 Lady Kenmore I owned for a time around 1980. If I had one again, I would want it with the matching dryer I searched for without success at the time.

As much as I love my Maytag 806 pair for its versatility and durability, the Lady Ks of that era had a luxury feel and sound second to none. Even small experiences like putting supplies into the dispenser were made special; the dispenser's door was solid brushed metal that felt very upscale.

pdub has probably the ultimate Lady K pair from this era; his are turquoise. I have the photos carefully stashed on my hard drive. Sigh.

For me, collector of problem children...

80's Raytheon Speed Queen set. My favorite aunt had a pair, and I just loved the look of them, and the sound of them chugging away in their little nook in the kitchen. Her set was still working when she traded up to a new set of Kenmores 15 years later.

I know alot of people don't like these, but they played such a big part of my childhood. Many happy afternoons were spent at her house, helping her clean as she told my wide eyed lil self stories of her latest or past exploits. (She was the "wild" aunt, who many in the family say I turned out like, lol).

Yogitunes happens to have the exact set, and here is a pic of his, lucky guy that yogi..

Would love to find a nice hit and miss Maytag engine at a decent price for one of my Model 80's though.

Maytag, of course.

A806 washer, and DG806 dryer!

In any color except avocado. Avocados belong on the plate, not my laundry area.

That is the ONLY pair that would cause me any hesitation if I had to choose between it and a pair of Maytag 906s.

hot rinse

Patrick,

Does your pictured daily driver Kenmore have a "hot rinse" option? It seems to me, I saw a button for that option on that machine, which a friend of mine owned. It was over thirty years ago that I saw it, so my memory may be blurred.

Barry, I've not known of such a thing since the early 1950s.  Most likely was a cold rinse button and another button for cold wash & rinse.

Similar to pictured above, the ultimate for me would be Poppy Red 1-18's, with a window and console flourescent lights, all the knobs and dials available for pre-wash, extra rinse, everything, but not a pushbutton design. I can make all sorts of choices, not the machine. Dryer in gas, not electric. Whichever year had the ultimate most extensive dial controls. Of course unused, New In Box, of course. For such a set, I'd re-do my first floor to make a first floor laundry room, those deserve to be seen and heard, not relegated to my basement.

Poppy Red Custom IMperial 1-18s

appnut's profile picture

Mark, I"m not sure these were ever available in Poppy.  Every sales brochure I've seen that had poppy offered during the 1-18 years, only the custom deluxe model was avaiable in that color.  It's also the only model I've seen in collections of the club too.  And every ad for poppy I saw also was not a Custom Imperial.  I hope someone proves me wrong, but that's my takeaway from observing.  I agree with you, they woiuled have been awesome.  Mark, I can also tell you that all those push buttons on the 1965 CI mimicked exactly the cycles and options as found on that CI 1-18 set's panel pictured above.

Hey Appnut

akronman's profile picture

You are probably quite correct, but I can dream, right? Mom had a MOL 1-18 set from 73, and most 1-18's with dials have been a fave of mine since, but the 1965 set is great looking, no problem with pushbuttons on it. The 1-18's to me just look right with silver dials, not pushbuttons, who knows?

And when you think about it, the poppy red cabinet and lids are entirely interchangeable regardless of the console, so I actually could swap around from 2 sets to get the exact controls I want on the color I want.

It may never happen, but this is a fun thread.

1966-67 Lady Kenmore Set

My dream vintage laundry pair that I would use as daily drivers would be the 1966-67 Lady Kenmore Set that "pdub (Patrick)" has pictured on his post.

I would take that set in either Turquoise (like "pdub's") or in Coppertone.

I have a soft spot for Kenmores anyway. But the Keyboard Consoles and Lighted Consoles on the machines takes things over the top.

That or a 1965-69 TOL Frigidaire Custom Imperial Rollermatic with Rapidry. "Appnut" has the set pictured on his post.

I'd be happy with either one. If I can have both sets, then all the better.

Like Bob,

1965-66 Frigidaire Rollermatic Custom Imperial set (or a newer Canadian Rapidry set),  The 1965 models are not exactly the same as the 1966 and newer models, the dryers lack the sensor dry and for some reason, I think I like them even better!

1964 Frigidaire Multimatic Custom Imperial set.

Any 1958-63 Frigidaire Custom Imperial models too!

And Bob is right about 1-18 Custom Imperial models not being available as Poppy. But it's still posssible to switch the cabinets if someone really wants that!

Some of the 65 Rollermatics came with the Impact clutch, this includes the Rapidry models.  This proved to be hard on the motors from what I was told about them, later on it was all sure-spin clutches.

My Poppy 1-18s are the Gold Crown Edition.  I also have never seen that color on an Imperial Model.

Selective Dialing

Was used to disengage the cycle selection lock stop feature so you could set the timer dial anywhere you wanted, on the 64 LKM the button to do this was labeled Dial and on other WP built washers and combs the button was labeled Manuel.

Vern, tis washer has theKenmore agitator that has the fins and no skirt under the fins--open.  The cycle normally would sift to gentle agitation from normal speed during the wash period.  The Heavy Duty button simply elikminated the speed shift in the middle of the wash and I think the rinse agitation speed also remained on normal.

Bob is correct. Heavy duty keeps the machine on fast agitation through the whole cycle. Otherwise it shifts to the lower speed at the 6 minute mark.

1963 Kemore 80 series in Coppertone... It's what Momma had when I was born, and the dryer lasted until I went to college. (My folks went to Riyadh for dad's work for 6 years and rented out the house... Of course one of the renter's ruined the machine. BASTARDS!)

IN all honesty, I kinda like my 99 Crosley (Norge) Heavy duty 20 pretty well. I'd like the matching dryer...but the GE I have works just fine.

Woh! How could I forget???? (And this is what that Viking W&D set reminded me of:)

My Grandma's General Electric 2 Speed Automatic Washer (Yes! That's what the control panel said!)

Three Water Levels & Three Temperatures (Hot/WARM, Warm/Cold, Cold/Cold--though not as efficient to operate w/o returning to it to make a COLD Rinse succeed the Hot Wash and/or accompany the Warm Wash w/ a Warm RINSE!) and Two Speeds!

And a Filter Flo, as well! (And my young mind thinking THAT was a "mini basket", while I was surprised that that was the ONLY GE that I saw w/ a LEFT-OPENING LID, the rest opened to the BACK!!!!)

Proof that you didn't need a TOL machine; that modest mite did the job everytime!

Although the dryer was a Kelvinator w/ a metal toggle switch for "Heat", "No Heat", designated by a '1' and '2', w/ a legend on the narrow "backsplash'; controls were mounted on the top of the cabinet, w/ a timed-only dry at Reg. Heat for up to 120-minutes! (Part of her earlier set the GE washer replaced (& I barely even remember that accompanying Kelvy washin' machine!)...

--...But I probably wish that those two machines (at least the washer WITH the dryer that goes with it, then) were in my laundry room today!

I almost have the dream set - the 1963 GE V-12 washer and matching dryer! Blast that dryer... LOL

I grew up with a lower-end set of GE V-12s and I fondly remember watching the activator churn. The set I have now are WAY fancier than what we had when I was a kid, but any GE(or clone, like the Vikings!) with a Filter-Flo is a 'dream daily driver' to me.

Don't have the photos but........

My dream daily driver set if doing all over again is the 1956 Westinghouse Laundromat Deluxe and its matching Clothes dryer. Chances of ever finding an intact pair in good shape is now next to impossible but, one never knows - perhaps a set shows up somewhere. I would gladly switch the vintage machines I have now for the '56 WH Laundromat Deluxe and dryer. Someday......
