That won't solve the problem on Maytags.; The safety lid switch stopped all action when the lid was raised, agitation or spin. |

Something still isn't right.
Have you checked the motor carriage for proper operation?
It should slide smoothly in both directions and spring backwards when pushed by hand towards the transmission.
When set to the spin cycle, the carriage should move almost all of the way forward to allow the belt to slip.

12 Series machines would fill with the lid open, but would not agitate/spin.
The older models were completely dead with the lid open.
I think Maytag changed this with the introduction of the infinite water level slider. It's difficult to get the desired water level in real time if everything comes to a halt with an open lid. I do believe 10 and 11 series washers were still completely dead with an open lid. I bet customers who had the infinite water level switch option complained about that and Maytag implemented the new design with the introduction of 12 series washers. Just a guess though. |

Mine must have been a 12 series because Im almost sure it filled with the lid up, but did nothing after, unless lid was down. (unless I stuck a pencil or something in the lid switch)
They (washer and dryer) were the cooper tone. Washer had a grey tub, (not very big if IIRC) small med large, load selector. Hot warm cold selector for wash, no selection for rinse (all cold) No Dash light. and for the life of me I cant remember the model # of that washer? There was a lady appliance repair shop here Anne's Maytag, if anything went wrong, I'd call, and in a gruff kind of voice she'd say "what model number it it"... Id tell her, and she'd say sharply "well what's it doing"... Id tell her, and she'd tell me what was wrong, what to fix, and what part I needed! Then she'd tell me to come out to her house to get the part. The geese around her house would come charging out at me! she come walking down her driveway yelling at the geese to "go on away from here".. and hand me the part, tell me to go home and put it on! I asked her once "but Anne, what if I can't " then she yell " well then call me and I'll talk you thru it" One time I did, and she kept her word, she stayed on the phone with me the whole time, tell me everything do do, and not to do! It always worked! she always made the correct diagnoses! she just was old, and would not come to the house to repair herself, unless there was ABSOLUTELY no other way! She was hilarious! I learned a lot from her! I miss her now, and of course miss the Maytags LOL |
