I own a Kitchenaid Dishwasher KUDA22ST3 with a motor - pump issue.

I need to 'bench test' the motor - pump but do not know how to do that (see below)

a. It's touch control panel is functioning normally.

b. The motor - pump assembly is Whirlpool - Kitchenaid part # 4171577

c. The Kitchenaid (Hobart?) motor alone is part # 970949

d. This motor has a relay but no external capacitor.

Here's the problem:

When starting the dishwasher to either pump or reverse pump (drain) there's a BUZZING for 15-30 seconds, no motor rotation, and then silence (?thermo protection). I cannot restart right away (?thermo protection) but waiting 15 minutes it will BUZZ again with any attempt to pump/drain.

I bought a used motor - pump assembly and used relay which reportedly were functioning.

I first replaced the motor - pump assembly and the same issue reoccurred.

I then replaced the relay (which moves-rattles freely) and the same issue recurred after trying to pump/drain.

Is there an easy way to bypass the upstream controls and test the relay & motor - pump?

I believe I either have two failed motors or something upstream in the controls failing.

The thread in the link below concerns replacing the same motor - pump assembly 4171577 and helped me get this far.

Hi Tom, and welcome to AW.org.

This thread really belongs in the pink aka Imperial forum.  It will get a lot more traffic there too.  I'll shoot the webmaster a request to move it.  Yes, your machine is in the 20 year old range.

SteveT is the expert on the Hobart and Hobart-influenced KitchenAids.  He should be able to provide the advice you need.
