Hi guys,

Well it's nearly 4 in the morning, but for whatever reason I'm wide awake, so I thought I'd make use of the time to seek advice on an ongoing problem I'm having with this machine.

You may remember from my previous thread that the progress indicator on the timeline control was out of sync. Gary (Electron1100) kindly helped me to realign the indicator belt with the timer, unfortunately it didn't take long (possibly 1 wash) before the timeline had worked its way out of sync again, and gradually worked its way further and further out of place with consecutive washes (grr!)

Can anyone think of what could be causing the indicator to go out of line like this? It seems like such a simple problem, but it really makes using the machine difficult. I hope to put the machine back into daily use when I move soon, but until this issue is resolved it would be very hard to live with!

I'm hoping it could just be that the indicator belt has stretched and is slipping over the wheels it runs on, is this still available as a spare part? If not does anyone here have a replacement they would be willing to sell me?

Could this be something more serious wrong with the timer? If so how difficult would it be to replace the whole thing?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Matt

I've never looked at one of these so I don't know what the belt is like but it may be worth taking the old belt to a TV repair shop (if such shops still exist in your area) and asking for a slightly shorter one. I dabble with old reel-to-reel tape recorders and got a video recorder belt to fit my Uher portable.

Timeline Belts

Hello Matt
I am not 100% sure but I think i have one of these, i will have stripped it off a machine, they do indeed stretch and go floppy and miss the teeth on the drive cog, other than making a belt tensioner (now theres a project!) changing it is all you can do, i might get round my garage this Friday so will have a look I will get back to you

Gary

Thanks!

The belt has what I can only describe as orange pointers sticking off of it which are visible through the timer window! This makes the belt quite specific, so it would no doubt have to be the same belt unfortunately.

Thanks for that Gary! Would really appreciate it if you could have a look for that for me, it would make the world of difference! If you can't find it I had considered attempting to fashion some sort of belt tensioner. Failing that, I suppose I could try to find a generic replacement belt, cut the orange pointers off the original belt and glue them around the new belt, but I'm sure that would just end in disaster!

Thanks again,

Matt

Toothed Belts

These are very hard to find in exactly the correct size, still there is nothing wrong with trying though.

Also this might help, i have the found the belt, it has blue counter marks obviously not a problem and it looks and feels reasonably stiff so it should be ok.

Oh wow Gary!

Thanks for looking for that, that would be ideal!

I really like the blue pointers actually, would probably match the grey fascia better than orange!

Is the email in your profile best to drop you a line on?

Thanks,

Matt
