One has to wonder how Kelvinator got away with that "Wedgewood" backguard and ad.
Even though "Wedgewood" is a misspelling (the name is actually spelled "Wedgwood"), the blue jasper color and white design on the control panel is obviously intended to evoke Wedgwood, which was and is a registered trademark. If Kelvinator had licensed the name, surely they'd have spelled it correctly. Something tells me this ended in a suit bring filed, and probably an out-of-court settlement. |

Snob appeal that looks like applique'. Mrs. Bucket, I mean Bouquet, would never approve.
The showroom is interesting, isn't it....so contemporary, but the appliances look years behind the architecture. The side-by-side (didn't know they were available then)is loaded with food, living up to the above sign, "Food-a-Rama". Wash-A-Rama, Cook-A-Rama....gotta love it. |

Just been then thing for a "Queen of the Cul de Sac" such as Hyacinth Bucket to have in her kitchen. Not in a separate laundryroom mind you because that wouldn't do, I mean you couldn't show them off now could you?
Who would have had the money but wouldn't have been caught dead? Maro Leadbetter from "Good Neighbors" that's who. Unlike Hyacinth, Margo was the real article and probably would have thought such things tacky. |

You have to hand it to Kelvinator; those room air conditioners sure blend in with any background or decor. |

Good Life in Europe/UK. Not sure why but remember seeing Ms. Keith on some PBS/BBC program explaining why the show had to switch names when it went acrosss the pond.
Regardless it was then and still is one of my favourite BBC programs, right up there with "Yes, Minister". Of course was a slip of a thing back then but it was great seeing those programs on Public Television. Later when one's parents were out on Saturday nights would watch "I Claudius". Mago Leadbetter was glam, stylish and sure of who she was, something Hyacinth was not. Margo could get away with being a snob because, well she was the upper class or at least upper middle class. Both Miss. Routledge and Miss. Keith have one thing in common; wherever they go in the UK people from taxi drivers to shop girls tell them that they "know" someone just like Hyacinth or Margo. Miss. Keith has said in interviews she is very glad not to have met or known anyone like Margo. *LOL* |

GOOD LIFE might have been retitled because there was an American show with that name a few years before:

Penelope Keith! Now she's funny!
Funny I was just talking about "I Claudius" this past weekend! We had met a real live Livia - his mother- what a monster! That Wedgewood model I found in a ditch and it was my first Kelvy to play with. It was in horrible shape! I'll take that Do-All-Dial set in the back please |

..But really.. who signed off on the "funky", half blue Kelvinator Originals pictured above? People buy appliances to match. These only match in color scheme, not in placement. Why a blue fridge top, but oven lower? And that mosaic band is absolutely unnecessary and detracts from the cohesive built-in look. ...It hurts my eyes!!!
