I think this Universal ad has made POD a few times before. Did anyone notice the item in the upper left corner? What would be the purpose of combining the separate washer and dryer in one Cadillac-like cabinet?

I would guess the same thing, Joe. And if one side dies, its all useless and have to replace it. And usually, the washer always dies before the dryer. Bet that is why they never sold many, because I never heard or seen of one of those 1 cabinet combos before.

How would you move the thing? Had to weigh a quarter ton.

Never knew Universal made anything but small kitchen electrics. Aprx year of that ad?

I am guessing this might have gone into a kitchen and maybe it would go for someone who wanted the seamless look without those cracks between the appliances and rest of the cabinetry

Would think a lot of home builders and apartment builders would like this sort of design-Just install, ready to go.

The Universal range pictured in that ad was almost identical to the one my grandmother had from the time I was a little kid, to my mid-20's. I remember that stove vividly.
