Here's a rather unique-looking design from the wizards at Bauknecht. Wonder how it will score in the "vibration" department? Those three spindly legs don't look bolted to the floor. I believe this is a prototype.

I think it's more of a design-thing than an actual washing machine. Much like this Miele dishwasher concept, which had a dishwasher rising out of the counter.

To me, reminds me of those commer round Laundromats form the mid to late 50s.  Kevin has one.

Bob-- That's the first thing I thought, too! The laundromat in the tiny town where I grew up had two rows of these round Westys. They were such fun to watch--especially the ones with the exposed fill tube.
And they ran with the door open, too. No safety switch. Can you imagine trying to insure a laundromat full of these in this day and age?

Full disclosure: I found this photo at Google Images, but I have the feeling it belongs to an AW family member. If this photo and/or washer is yours, please take credit.

Is that a Bendix to the right of it?

Neither would stand still on those 3 spindly legs, that's for sure.

I am pretty sure that

the Westinghouse and Bendix are Ross's machines, but I may be mistaken.

As for the Bauknecht, remember, it is a Whirlpool company.......so it may be a design exercise, or it may become a real product. To me, it is overdesigned.

For me, an idea, even for those who want a Milnor small size washer for their home,a Milnor front loader made by not only them, but also by Miele.

Eugine that is a cool design.

I am always interested in seeing new designs and the guys here,

from the UK drawings are nice as well.

Here are two design concepts I saw that I was interesting in a dryer form.

And washer.

A clear or translucent dryer drum with like a pedestal bottom.

Pic 2.  The bottom comes out like a drawer.

Pic 3. This seems like you put your laundry in a wash ball basket one for colors,

and one for whites etc.

For conviniance...?

Apart from Bendix and Laundromat the very first Bosch fridge came in a similar round design.
It was not this shape for the sake of desingn but it was more energy efficient and cheaper to build than a normal fridge.

It's an interesting design concept, but it isn't practical from the point of view of fitting it into the average laundry area in European homes.

Not all that many people want to put their washing machine in as an 'objet d'art'. They're traditionally box-shaped because they have to fit under counters in utility rooms, kitchens, or be hidden away in laundry closets, bathrooms, garages etc.

The big round machine isn't going to be too practical and I couldn't really see many people opting to buy it. It's not a television or something that you'd really want to install as a piece of furniture / design statement.

I had to think of that dryer, too.

And Zanussi had the IZ series...

...as an arty design. Unfortunately, it wouldn't sit exactly flush with the rest of the kitchen cabinetry.

There was also a horrible Zanussi fridge which was obviously beaten with the ugly stick.

The Bauknecht design at the beginning of this thread sure is interesting, I'd buy one IF they could really make it work.   However I will be so bold as to say that both this one and the two in the photos Darren posted are strictly a design mockups, not anywhere close to functioning prototypes.

The "photo" of Ross's coin-op Westinghouse above is technically mine, I suppose.   It's actually a still from the video I shot, the link is below.   I have one of those coin-op Westie's too, but have not figured out where to bolt it down yet.

This seems like you put your laundry in a wash ball basket

aquacycle's profile picture

That's been done before with the Titan where the machine had a plastic drum that slotted into the machine. This doubled up as a laundry basket, so when it was full you just put it in the machine and turn it on. I don't think it ever took off though
