Hey Kids

On my nightly scour through Ebay, i came across this machine that has the Hotpoint brand on it (UK Version).

Machine itself looks like a Samsung/LG type build, made in asia i suspect. I have seen this washer rebranded as a Highlander brand machine in our local appliance stores, I just never expected to see the Hotpoint brand on it in this country.

I wonder how it came to be.

I know that there is a Hotpoint brand floating around Australia but all i have seen that it produces is small room heaters and small fridges.

Anyway heres some pics and the link to the ad :-) Thought it was something interesting worth pointing out.

Matty

It looks abit like this Onix machine.
The programme dial looks abit like the one used on the samsung big wash and smart wash models, but the back cover looks different.
Is hotpoint AU the same as hotpoint UK?

Tom...Hotpoint in Australia is now extremely rare.
The brand name is owned by Indesit in Australia, although, Indesit still sell the machines under Ariston (not Hotpoint-Ariston, Hotpoint). I think Indesit will one day roll Hotpoint out down in Australia again soon, however Ariston is very popular, compared to Hotpoint which occasionally sold back in the day before Indesit took over.

After looking through the pictures on Ebay, it has two Logo's (one being the Logo before Indesit took over, and one Logo that I have never seen hotpoint use in the UK - Kind of looks like the current Logo writing, but the symbol is different.), I think this shows the machine was made at the time either when Indesit was taking over, or just before - in which it would be a rare machine.
I suppose a cost of shipping a machine from the UK, is more expensive than make it in China with cheaper parts to sell it at a better price.

I don't even think it's genuinely anything to do with Hotpoint at all, the product screams out fake to me... :-)

The link below might be of interest. It seems the Hotpoint brand in Australia wasn't/isn't owned by Indesit.

"Hotpoint is owned by a subsidiary of Nanjing Textiles (Nantex) which first listed on the Shanghai stock exchange in 1993 and is one of China's top 500 companies."

@Glenfieldmathk1
Thanks for clearing that up :) the reason I wondered if hotpoint UK and AU were the same was because of the logo that is on the machine.
it does look a little bit like a samsung smart wash model of washing machine but as I said, the back cover looks different.

It is a bit confusing because the label is so similar to almost a vintage Hotpoint, I did wonder if there was some kind of relationship between the Hotpoints but this machine is very clearly a cheap generic chinese washer. Like i say I've seen it a few times in different stores under different brands like Highlander and Stirling brands.

Interesting anyway.
