That is a fabulous dryer. The electric Soft Heat system makes for very fast drying. There are two heating elements, a larger and a smaller. When the operating thermostat cycles the heat, just the larger heating element cycles off and the smaller one stays on to continue supplying heat, keeping the temperature from falling as far as older thermostats allowed in the range between cycle off and cycle on. The gas system does not cycle the burner; it just maintains a steady drying heat while tapering the flame down as the load requires less heat as the fabrics shed moisture. The performance is like what newer dryers with thermisters provice except this dryer is from the mid-late 60s.

Actually not, this dryer had an exactly matching washer and as Tom mentioned it was a very good dryer.

There is...

A coppertone Kenmore just like the one pictured at the Winston Salem Habitat Restore for 55.00, looks very nice!

The design is based on a match-all dryer of the previous year (which is or was in the collection) and it proved so popular that Sears decided to make a matching pair which is why the control panel had to be thicker to accommodate the washer controls.
