What a great find, Chris!  These commercial units are so cute in blue.  8 kids.  Wow - that little guy has sure seen a lot of washing then - probably a wise choice for a family that size, other than capacity of course.  Look how nice it is - no rust anywhere?

Very Cool!

So happy to see you got it! It looks in better shape than I thought.

It also looks so simple and easy to work on with that lift off cabinet.

Can't wait to see the progress and hear more.

Don't look for matching paint.

d-jones's profile picture
Any automotive paint store should be able to custom match the color of this machine, and it will be a true match as opposed to a near match.

Very nice looking machine.

Very clean looking.

When I was in college in 1962, there was a Westinghouse Laundromat in Asheville, NC with about 20 of these machines. I was impressed with how quiet they were.

Ross has one in Tucson. Maybe he can help with the age.

Looks like a lot of fun for the winter.

Jerry Gay

PS I've often wondered whatever happened to the Jacobs Laundryall you were working on. I'd sure love to see that up and running.

Neat find!

I have never seen one with the timer and no coin box. The rectangular window makes it newer than the ones with the round window so it's probably an early 60s machine. Do you know if the man bought it new? I know new Philco Bendix commercial machines were very expensive.

You have all winter to pour a base for it.

Door Seal

jeff_adelphi's profile picture
The door seal is still available, part # Q000129491, but expensive, $107. I ordered one a few years ago. I have the same washer but with the coin box. Mine was built in 1967.

Neat Machine!

I have the same machine without the coin box.I got mine off of the SS United States, ocean liner. They were stationed on many of the passenger decks,so they could do their own laundry. The ship was launched in 52 and anything electric was Westinghouse.I have a few of the state room fans and some of the 16inche ones from the public areas.Alot of white 50 or 51 model washers were on the ship, small like the blue ones, also bolt down, but they had round windows with a chrome handle and round chrome bezel around the glass. The electrical items were ordered probably a couple years before the ship was launched. What a wonderful find. I remember seeing people in my family using machines like yours at our local laundromat on First Avenue between 22nd and 23rd streets in the late 50's. I always liked these machines although at the time I had no idea how or how well they worked. They always reminded me of those old Lux egg timers. And I love that light Robin's Egg Blue color.

Wow, Chris, great find! The local laundry in my home town of Pointe-Claire featured Westinghouse commercial machines like this one - so neat to see one again! Congrats!!

Great find! I hope enjoy it. You might just yet get some paint on her this weekend as it's supposed to be in the 70's here in STL.

well i did paint it with the best color match i could find so well have to let that dry for a while and see.. if its icky ill have to wait till spring and redo it. but i took the timer out of the top of the cabnet and just hung it on the machine and hooked up all the wires and pluged it in. well she runs and runs a full cycle so the timer works yeah.. so next warm weekend we can play with water.
