Hey guys,

My sisters GE washer, model #WPSR4130W1AA, (late 1990s/early 2000s) developed a problem where it would get to the first spin in the cycle and not stop. I figured the problem was the timer wasnt advancing. I took it out and bench tested it. It seemed to work okay. Advanced as it should. Made a complete revolution in 3hrs. Put it back in machine and problem still there. She bought a new Maytag and the GE was put out in the garage. Would like to get it working again.

Any thoughts as to what the problem might be? Is it a problem with the timer?

Thanks,
Ken

Would you think 60-90min a more appropriate time for a full revolution than 3hrs?

Lid switch?

Maybe its the lid switch. I know on my 2008 Frigidaire top loader the lid locking mechanism stopped working but it would still agitate with half the lid switch working. I bought a new timer thinking it must have been the problem but it didn't fix it either.....so i fiddled with the lid switch and sure enough that was the problem, and duck tape was the solution lol. I know the switches are different on GE'S but you never know i guess.

During agitate, the timer motor gets it's power through the water level pressure switch and timer "terminals". During spin, it's through the pressure switch bypass "contacts" in the timer. Pretty simple to check for 120vac across the black wires to the timer motor during spin mode. Machine wouldn't spin if lid switch is bad. Lid switch may or may not effect timer depending upon exact model. Check schematic on tech sheet behind control panel.
