Hotpoint merged with a division of GE in 1918, but later in 1932 the latter purchased factories and the entire company becoming the Edison General Electric Company.
IIRC GE wanted to get it's mitts on Hotpoint's calrod heating element technology and patents. The founder of HP invented the first electric iron that heated around the tip and upper portion of the iron (hence the name "HotPoint") after a suggestion from his wife about what housewives wanted in an electric iron. |
