Looking for a Kitchenaid matched TL set within driving distance of Zip 37601.I know some of you sell a set occaisionally to offset the cost of the hobby,or simply get tired of a set,or find somrthing else that is more of a priority.Im finally getting out of the high tech world back to something simpler that actually uses water. Can either be in raw form or already reconditioned. Will be used for a daily driver, and will need to be in nice physical condition.Gotta keep the wife happy of course.Anything around? Thanks everybody.

Yes

Yes thats what I had in mind.Found a set of Maytag Dependable Care units but I know the Maytags are tricky.I assume there were the first short stroke Maytags before Whirlpool assumed ownership.Do they bear consideration>
Thanks

you mean a set like this.....with the Orbital drive tranny.....what do you mean by Tricky?....these run really well, even better with the LoadSensor agitator!

yes

Yes,they are like this. What I meant by tricky is that there were some Maytag models that apparently were not very good(Atlantis,Performa?)and wanted to make sure I was right in my assumption that these were the good ones.
Thanks Yogitunes for sharing your knowledge.

YES....this is of the original Maytag design, not the Norge built version....very reliable.....and of course I added the LoadSensor agitator, makes all the difference in the world....

Maytag Dependable Care machines w/ Load Sensor agitators are very good machines.  We've had ours for 14 1/2 yrs.

Either Maytag "Dependable Care" or KitchenAid machines are worth seeking out if you can find them used in decent condition. So are Whirlpool direct-drive machines that the KitchenAid machines are based on.

Maytag "Performa" machines I would probably pass on.

We have a Maytag set that is called "Amanatag" because they are Amana designs with Maytag badges.

But, in spite of the fact that there is a lot of love for Speed Queen machines here, our Amanatag pair, while it started out as an Amana is pretty much a Speed Queen due to the strangeness of corporate acquisitions.

Best of luck to you!

Cork-Screw

The only corkscrew agitator worth a crap was the maytag Load-Sensor Agitator.  All others are noisey in operation and feel cheap to the touch.

My Opinion.

Thanks

for all the thoughtful info. Its my plan to hopefully find a well kept matching set of Kitchenaids or Maytag DCs then replace all the things likely to give trouble up front.Im replacing my SQ set 7 years old.The dryer drum split at the seam and had to be replaced. The washer's door latch is loose, the water heating system quit, and now is sometimes wont go into final spin.Gonna bail out of them before they end up costing me a fortune or quitting entirely,so they have no value at all.Buying them was not one of my better decisions to say the least. My health is bad so my objective is to have a long term set in place in case something happens to me.Thanks again to all who have responded.
