Wow Everyone ,
I just realized it has been a little over a year since I joined the group on 1/1/12. I was on a business trip to NYC and in my hotel room when I officially became a member … I had found the website and had watched the blog entries for about a week before I thought “this could be cool”!

At that time, I remember thinking … I bet it is going to be really hard to find some good vintage machines … HA! A year later I have about 19. I have been as far west as Robert’s in Minnesota … all the way to up to Massachusetts, as far south as Atlanta and out East to Combo Johnny’s and place in Beltsville (now twice) … needless to say … I do like to drive =).

I’m lucky enough to have met all really good folks … and have made a few friends for life. Thanks for all of the answers to emails as I inquire about machines, parts, “how too” and misc questions. It has been a learning adventure for sure!

Here is a list of my current machines (all need some form of work)... I hope to add pictures of them to the Collections file soon. I have not identified concise manufacture dates for any of them … Or have forgotten the dates as I type this. I really love the earlier “flat top” machines … and of course machines with lights and gizmos.

1954ish WP Supreme
1955ish Westinghouse Laundromat
1951ish Westinghouse Laundromat
Norge Timeline blue #1 early 50's
Norge Timeline gold #2 early 50's
1953ish Frogeye Kenmore
1952ish Flat top Kenmore
1949ish flattop WP suds saver and matching electric dryer
1959 Blackstone 350 and matching gas dryer
Maytag flat AMP and matching dryer
1952 WP “Cartoony” roll top electric Dryer
1956ish WP Imperial electric Dryer
1959 Alphabet Kenmore dryer
1955ish Blackstone 150
Maytag wringer (I had this before I joined)
1961ish Maytag Suds saver
1959/60 LK Combo

The 4 diverse Holy Grail machines I'm still looking for are:

A late 40's Frigidaire flattop, an Apex automatic, a Bendix w/d combo (or early Bendix washer) and a 52ish “rolltop” cartoony WP washer (to match my dryer above) There are also few stray Lady Kenmore models that I’d like to find hehehe.

Thanks (a picture of some of the machines is attached below)

Scott 19 machines in one year, you did better than I did however I did have a head start, LOL. I wounder what this year will produce, I seem to remember your saying a year ago that you wanted to get about 6 classic washers for your collection.

We also had a very good year for some cool new acquisitions helped along by Tom and other friends, we added several significant machines.

The 1959 Westinghouse L-1000 washer and D-1000 dryer were the highlight, we also got the cool 1963 GE under-counter telephone dryer to go with the sink top washer. A 1960 Easy Combo, A 1958 TOL Philco Bendix GAS combination, A 1958 Westinghouse built-in microwave oven [ made by Tappan ] and another 1958 WP Gas Combination W-D.

I think this will also be a good year for collecting, I have been alerted to a really cool  TOL matched laundry pair from around 1967, I will post pictures when we get them in mid February.

Happy New Year to all and good luck collecting, John.

Ha Combo!

Yes, the real magic # for machines is 14ish .. and I am a few over that at the moment. A few of the machines are actually in a holding pattern and headed to other homes (probably in the Spring). A couple of these keeper babies need to visit Beltsville at some point for some TLC and restoration ... they are becoming very well traveled!

A current basement storage pic...

Notice the studding happening behind the machines. When complete, I'll have about 27' for the washer / dryer lineup along that south wall. hehehe
