I would a lot rather lose 250 than 400 dollars, but it is hard to think of the new owner's dreams crashing into the very hard wall of reality with the first use. On the plus side, one of those folding clothes drying racks would just about hold the load from this machine. If you had a fan to aim at the rack, you could probably wash and dry a load in just a little less time than the machine.

I've picked up a few of those over the years. None of them worked.....

Kenny, you're lucky. You found that out for free. The original owners paid far more to discover the same thing and, no doubt, had higher hopes crushed in the process.

Why bad news for the new owners?
From what I could see that combo was made my Philco Italia before the Indesit takeover, a very reliable brand!
Plus it is meant to be totally serviceable! Why shouldn't it not work as intended?

mine has been reliable

my 2002 built splendide has been very reliable-had to resurface the motor commutator due to water dripping on the motor, but the leak was caused by shipping damage not a fault of the manufacturer.(i bought the washer in damaged condition and fixed it up-missed that one leak)

Dear cfz,
Judging from your collection, it does not look like this is you only laundry appliance operating for several hours many days each week to do all of your laundry. Many fragile machines will last quite a while if they receive light use. It's not so much the washing, but many people who have bought these in metropolitan areas do not have access to a clothesline so they count on these to do the drying. Since only half of the washer load can be dried in the machine at one time, it makes for a long washday by the time the second load is finished drying. If the only place you have to hook it up is at the kitchen sink in a apartment, these quickly move from the status of dream machine to PITA when you need the kitchen for preparing meals and cleaning up after them while this is at the sink or near it, using the faucet for condensing water for drying. Remember, these are not people who have the option of drying the load by hanging it outdoors. Many who buy the machine are naive (which is EVIAN spelled backwards) about the realities of laundry machinery and expect the machine will dry laundry as fast as a regular, full-sized dryer. Having the only sink tied up for hours gets old, according to people who report on their experience and the many hours of operation do take a toll on these machines.

little combo

Hehe the splendide does take about 2 hrs to dry a load that includes jeans or towels-it is also fairly loud in drying mode as when there is just a little water in the sump water surges up and down in the drain hose as the pump impeller froths the surf.Wash mode is fairly quiet.
