Came accross a few adverts I hadn't seen before on youtube, here a link to the liberator automatic and twin tub. There are a few other by the same poster from about the original hoover washing machine and the keymatic.

Sorry if Im re posting films that have been posted before, but I'd not seen them until this week

Mathew

You boys should pay more attention to the threads you know, I posted these a few weeks ago!

The second film was originally produced by the Electrical Association For Women, and its proper title is "T'was On The Monday Morning"

Just found it Al posted from November last year..

Nowthen the big question is "How the heck did everyone miss it !!" not a comment on it, which for the literature posted is very bizzare....unless it was a very fast posting night and it dropped off to archive very quickly!!

....LOL, I saw them Al last year !!

Never seen the Liberator or Curry's one before but i have a copy of the Keymatic demonstration one, with the pink haze. I got it years ago from some research centre in Winchester, but back then you had to write to Hoover or whoever the company was and get their permission, such a faff.
Thanks for searching them out.

Hi Al

I had thought this might be the case, but with such low viewing figures I was't sure. Sorry to have missed it, I probably missed most of the posts during november due to work on the two christmas productions.

Anyway interesting to see them, though the challange now is to move forward and get on with some restoration work, and get together to enjoy them.

All the best

Mathew

So Last Year

electron1100's profile picture
Well I am sorry Al and Mat but i saw all these adds about 3 years ago at an old boys place he had them on video tape he used to work for the BBC he had others aswell for all sorts of products from that sort of period and sorry mike but he had a few Servis ones, he also had a Keymatic (slope front model) with no reference number on the back plate or model number, he said it was a Test model he had been given by his brother in law who worked for hoover, this machine was one that Hoover used when developing the machine. it wasnt a blue control panel but it was plain white with no trim on it. he said it didnt work, i managed to turn the drum when he wasnt looking, he said that in future i could have it but nothing yet, i forgot about this because not long after i got ill and left work.

if i can find his number ill call him

Hi Mike,
Hopefully we can arrange a date at sometime.
I dont think i have that much, but what does come up i have seen before, I know when i went to Momi (in Leeds) well i think it was called that many years ago I got to see loads of adverts for machines even a Frigidaire with Agitator early 60's, I had to load the 35mm reals myself, this is where i got a few of mine from. But they don't do it anymore..and as i said before its hard to get permission from the original advertising company, even more so with Servis as Cogent & Elliott have been dissolved into so many other companies over the years no one wants to grant consent in case of breaking copyright law..it is a nightmare !! LOL
Anyway hope to catch ya soon
Keith

Meet up

vacbear58's profile picture

Funny you should mention that Mike as I have just been thinking about another meet up.

Gosh, since the last one four twin tubs, 2 spin dryers, 3 auto washers and more tumble driers than you could shake a stick at have taken up residence here ..... So plenty of wash action as well as cleaners & mixers .....

Al

Keith that must have been a real thrill just using the original films i would have loved that, I remember MOMI opening in the 80s on the South Bank though i didnt know they had opened one in leeds, all this historic gear is so fascinating i am think if AL is having a meet i would like to get to it and if your there Keith it would be very intersting to talk to you about these old appliance, as you know Mike and AL have a vast knowledge of old machines aswell so it would be good to get you all together.

Gary

Mathew, yes we need to get organised with the meets, currently taking apart the Servis MK1 from the 50`s show, pump blocked or looking at the rust, impellar rusted away - hey ho!!

Al, wow, so its Conservatoire Launderette then, sounds good, lets get sorting dates , would be great to catch up soon!!

Keith, the notion of looking for the advertisements etc would have been worth filming in its own right.....What is MOMI - besides dearest!!

Gary, wow, looking forward to hearing more about these Keymatics, is it the same fellow with the barn full of spare parts etc..??

Mike yes it is that guy, i forgot about him because he went into hospital to have a bladder operation and didnt contact me after so with my own stuff going on it all got forgotten

I did try ringing him but no reply so i left a message on his answer machine.

MOMI is the Museum of Moving Images it is not a million miles fomr the Museum Of Modern Design where they had a keymatic on display, the very first one i ever saw years ago

If Mike, Keith, AL and MAT could get together that would be a mega meet all of you with your extensive knowledge and as you mentioned Keith could bring along some of his fabulous old machines that we havent seen that would be the icing on the cake

Yes Mike Al has a Conservatoire Launderette with lots of lovely machines, and lots of machines for hoovering up the crumbs from his top notch food

Dam i am all excited now ;-)

Watching the video in reply #2 has made me realise just how inefficient my kitchen-come-laundry room is, I must rearrange it at once to make my washdays easier!!

Loving these videos... my parents live in a house not dissimilar to the one in the Hoover video, the small room off their hallway which houses the boiler, tumble dryer and dogs beds is the remnants of an old scullery, complete with pulleys on the ceiling for the hoist-them-up drying maiden!

Hi Gary,

Not sure there would be enough hours in the day if we all got together but we would give it a good try !!

With regards to bringing some machines, not sure how many i can fit in my A-Class :) but can bring some literature which is always interesting to look through.

Hope we can all get together in the Spring.

Cheers
Keith

Ho my, the Hoover single tub has bought back some memories, my mother used one for many years, it was a later model with a pump W3590 I think, and it was my job on returning from school to empty and dry out the machine, I would deliberately forget to put the lid on and the Pulsator would splatter the water all over the place, I can still smell the soapy water and it was always very dark grey after washing my dads work overalls.

Unfortunately this was one of the machines that took a ride on the back of a skip lorry accompanied by my Hotpoint Liberator, thanks dad, I will never forgive….

Next meet up, maybe I can make it this time around, now I work Monday to Friday.

I tried to include this as part of my video above but Windows Live Movie Maker was not having it.

Hilda bought the machine from Renee Bradshaw, the owner of the shop next door to where they lived.

The tumble wash can be seen at 6.18 in the video.
