Wow, $400 in 1951 was a LOT of money. About 1/2 the price of a car.

I'd be concerned with the "it worked the last time we used it" part though. You could ask the seller just to turn it on and see what happens when it runs through a cycle.

I just spoke with Phil, the son of the folks who bought this Homart (Sears) Electric Sink new, for their home located in Le Mars, Iowa (near Sioux City). When he answered, and after I Introduced myself, he asked: are you the one who bought one of these same Homart dishwashers somewhere out east? In his research, he had already found my discussion in Imperial about the Homart (Sears) Electric Sink that I bought in North Egremont, MA back in April 2009. Plus he had seen my videos of the same machine on YouTube. He is fortunately an insightful individual who is interested in preserving vintage things which prompted him to advertise on Craigslist. I am so thankful for people like him.

We have a deal arranged for purchase, and I will likely be making the 7 1/2 hour drive from Peoria to uninstall it myself one of these upcoming weekends.

Mike

Here is the ad that Phil was referring to, I believe. This is from the 1952 Sears Catalog, and after Sears changed the Homart emblem to Kenmore. Likely, his machine is from 1950.
