I normally post in the "Imperial" forum, but believe the washer/dryer in question is circa 1990s. I just purchased a Maytag stacking washer/dryer model LSE7800ACW and would like to know the year of manufacture. Not sure since I collect much older machines. Just installed in my summer home and am curious of the vintage. Thanks and hope someone can please help me. Todd

Lid lock disconnect

washerlover's profile picture
Oh, and if anyone knows of an easy way to bypass the lid lock/switch, please advise. I've looked at it and it seems a bit complicated, compared to other machines I've tackled in the past. Thanks, Todd

Todd

it would help more with the date if I had the serial number as well

I have a LSE1000, with the sliding lid, removed the plastic tab from the lid, and just for storage re-attached it backwards on the lid.....

then underneath, I wrapped tape around the regular lid switch, leaving the locking mechanism alone and re-assembled the whole unit....

now this did disable the tub light, but no big deal at this point.....I could rewire it with a switch....

one nice thing also, is this model has a seperate out of balance switch located on the side of the tub....so as not to defeat it....

That machine was made between 1990 and most likely late 1993. If you post the last 2 LETTERS of the serial number I can give you a year and month.

This one doesn't have a tub light like the 1000. Yours is electronic control but this one has dials. I'm somewhat surprised that this one still has the slide back lid vs. the lift up version. Here's a diagram of it...

it did puzzle me as to the sliding lid....most of the "dial" machines had a lift lid, and orbital wash.....could be an in-between model......

never did understand why the lid lock, no other Maytag had one....and as the regulars, once you slid back the lid, all operation stopped....

JohnL has one with the tub light built into the slanted access panel, push on/off....

The one with the front panel mounted work light was the LSE9900. I see many more 1000's than 9900's. I knew someone who found one of these lighted panels and mated it into a newer Maytag stack.

Wow, thank you all for your responses, and happy to see familiar "faces" in this forum. Serial # A5118378 H8. My machine has knobs, no electronic control. I, too, was surprised with the lid locking feature. I'm thinking about tackling the wiring for the lock and lid switch, bypassing and disabling the entire mechanism. One thing I can say for this unit, it is really quiet, and deceptively larger capacity than it appears.

Hey, Todd!

Your machine was born in January, 1993. (That's a H & B at the end of the serial...) I'd have posted a wiring diagram but AT&T seems to be having an issue right now where a 'software issue' in the Reno center has disrupted landline and cell phone service and also all but wiped out DSL Internet service for the greater western Nevada area starting about 5pm yesterday. I'm functioning on a iPad using cellular but the shop computer with the schematics can't access the net. I'll try later. AT&T says maybe by late tonight. Uh huh...

So what do you think about my trying to bypass the lid and spin lock switch? I've bypassed basic lid switches before, but this seems to have a bit more to it...

take the plastic toggle off the lid, and reverse it for later use should you wish to change it back.....this will allow you to slide the lid at any time

and wrap tape around the lid switch, and re-install....

there is a lot of components in that area, but all I did was put everything back, and it works fine...nothing to it

Just put a window in the lid and install a tub light a-la Robert's dishwasher.

LAZY WAY

kenmore700bill's profile picture
I have the same maching as Martin at my shore house what I did was
take the plastic lid lock and stick in the lid lock hole and duck tape it in the lid lock hole with about 2 inch of duc tape...
Mine has been in there for 3 years no issues..
Like Martin said earlier you loose the light.
You dont have to take the machine apart.

Still LSE9900

Does any one have an Owner's Manual? I found the parts diagram, but rally want to know how to move, separately, the washer from the dryer. There is a double-arm base with tabs that the washer slides onto and I'm having trouble getting both arm/tabs of the base to align with slots on the base of the washer.

These machines can be finicky in that regard.  It takes some trial and error.  I emailed you the installation instructions which have pretty good diagrams about how they fit together.
