Okay  we're starting a new thread here in Applianceville- Lint Balls you have known. Post your pics of your lint balls and where you got them!

( I tried to pick the right forum and IT sent me here )

These are obvious for "the where" but "the what" is more subtle- the flannel lining in my jeans.

That last picture reminds me of the woman who called the repair man because her new dryer didn't work anymore. When the repair man arrived she asked him if it perhaps needed a "new blanket..." lol

I don't get too many of these and if I do, they're tiny balls. (haha). Anyways, is it a good or bad sign of a washer's gentleness if your washer is extracting this much textile and lint? Those are planetoid-size lint balls!

Overphil Any size is good lint!

jetcone's profile picture

But I think you should see SOME lint , if you don't then there isn't enough mechanical action in the machine.

Yes Mike I get the best Lint Balls from dog stuff in my FilterFlo TOO! Nice flocculation there buddy!

...phew, we do get lint balls - not much, but the washer picks them up. I love how the FF works....you guys got me looking at FF's now....I have my eyes on a pair, but like the Maytags. No wonder you get diseased with all this.

Even if you do graduate to Filter-Flos later, a pair of classic Maytags would be a very good place to start getting comfortable with owning collectible laundry appliances.

Maytag's engineering is simple and robust, yet the machines can be as fully-featured as anything out there. The top-of-the-line 806s are two-speed machines that last forever with reasonable maintenance.

Other collectible machines can have more complex mechanicals that require more knowledge to repair. That may or may not be a drawback for you; you're the best judge of your mechanical abilities. But Maytags are a good place to start.

Maytag screen mesh only needs emptying once in a while - this is after two loads. Most of the lint heads out the vent to freedom on the prairie winds:

I had wadss of lint from the dryer, but threw it out, thinking you only wanted to see lint from the washer. our Maytag dryer LDE 482 does a nice job of extracting lint. Shot is LA482 load used and resulting tendrils of fibers.

Yesterday, I had a lint wad similar to Phil's after washing the Velux blanket from our bed, and an afghan I bought at an estate sale.  I washed them in my 1971 Maytag A806s, and dried them in my 1971 DE606, and the lint filter disc was lightly covered also.  There was quite a bit of hair in the lint from the washer.  They came out of the DE606 so nice & soft, and only faintly smelling of the Suavitel Morning Sun softener I used.

Most of what WOULD be lint balls actually gets stuck in my drain! If only I could have shared a shot of my laundry tub over-flowing before I periodically unstuck the lint after some of my wash loads... (See following pictures)

what you have there TrainGuy is a "lint attack" or under doctrine a "lint infestation across the time barrier". Run! get your brush before its too late!!

Wait till you see how much lint I got out of the '57 Charcoal dryer John says I'm hoarding!!! Your pics will make a good comparison !!

Alex: ... !!! ....under the dryer paddles? OMG, I won't sleep tonight...but will tear apart the dryer to vacuum and find these festering little globs of fiberoids. :-) To be serious, isn't this why some fires start in a dryer...lint balls?

Larry - I found your dryer more interesting than the lint! Nice machine. I also liked the Spaceshuttle vid that followed.
