That's a cool washer, and yes it is indeed a rare bird. I have seen this model in brochures, but never seen one in person or even in a picture of an existing machine.

Here are some details:

1981 model, two speed, three cycles, yes, one water level, large capacity, Penta-Vane agitator in white (first year for the white one), no lint filter, three temps.

There was a step-up model, similar to this but having three water levels, a water-fall filter, and the cream color console with ebony insert at left. We don't see many of those either.

There are lots of the 1982 version of this, which has the brown console, the three water levels, but no filter. They all came with the butt-kicker Penta-Vane agitator.

A friend's parents bought this washer to replace a '63 Lady Kenmore. The family of six was thrilled until it took over an hour to dry the first big load in the '63 LK dryer, performance was even more hobbled by running thru a 3 inch vent. Still, it was the first time I'd seen a Penta-Vane in action, it was very fun to watch.

Very cool. These base machines have been piquing my interest lately. Wish I had space!

I have two of the 1982 model which looks just like this machine but has the three water levels added. I certainly don't want both, though neither have been tested. If you gain some space in the future, you are welcome to one of them, and I'd be glad it went to a great home.

My brother had that set, with an electric dryer, that my dad gave him.  I traded him for a Maytag A 510 DE 408 set I had, and sold the Kenmores.

Never saw many of them, must not have been too popular.

They look like they'v had some wear and tear on them, but what would you expect from a 32 year old set like this? I like the basic looks of the consoles.

Thanks Gordon! Maybe spring cleaning will help me out a bit.

The family did choose the gas dryer. I imagine this set solved their laundry problems for many a year.Reminded me of the older Maytag ads with the huge families touting the reliability of the product. I think i can make out Kenmore on the panel. When did Sears start with the "Galaxy" bargain brand? alr2903
