I have a Maytag 806 pictured many times on this site. In 2010 when folding white towels I noticed one towel had a blackish brown spot about the size of a saucer. Odd only one item so my guess was a stain before washing. In 2011 I noticed the same color stain in streaks and spots on the corner of a top sheet limited to 6 inch area. While the stain washed out of the towel it seemed to become more pronounced in the sheet. Last week a favorite white shirt was the lucky victim.

I generally wash 3 or 4 loads a week, always a load of sheets, then towels with random whites in hot with warm rinse. A load of permanent press and a load of jeans in warm with warm rinse. Our well water is so cold I do a manual blend of warm and hot for wash and they rinsed are cool, not warm. I use powdered laundry detergent, liquid fabric softener and occasional Oxyclean.

Is there an occasion release of Fabric Softener build up or indicative of transmission oil leakage.

Kelly

Sounds to like it could be either. However you said it did wash out the first time. It it were truly transmission oil, the stuff don't wash out. Let me/us assume you have pulled the filter/dispenser and cleaned it periododicaly?

I have a similar problem with my 99 Crosley (Norge)... But mine looks like coin-sized oil spots (and about as much trouble to clean out.)
