Our own Fred in Chicago (St. Charles ) has put his house on the market and has begun the arduous process of moving. In an effort to thin down several collections, he's been selling vacuum cleaners, appliances among other goodies and we drove out this weekend to adopt a couple of his orphaned beauties.

I search a pretty wide region on Craigslist and happened upon an ad in Marshalltown, IA (on the way to Chicago on I-80) so I had to call. I stopped Friday morning and picked up this never used KitchenAid washer.

The seller told me her ex-husband owned a store and when they split, he was also closing the store at the same time so she got a brand new washer. Intending to use it when her washer "died", it never did and then her mother passed away last year and she got the nearly new set from her house.

Mike, I have the KDS-56 & 58 models already, also in harvest gold (Peter put a harvest gold curse me years ago and I've learned to live with it!) so this 17 series machine will be very happy in between her younger and older sisters. The washer is a BOL model but the KA washers had lots of higher-end upgrades that all other DD washers didn't. The fact it's new, never used means I may never get rid of off-site storage!

Agitator and dishwasher

Kitchenaids have a bigger agitator and the normal washspeed is the gentle speed. They wash incredibly well I have sold a few like that over the years. What a score its new! I have that same dishwasher in like condition.Who cares if its a one arm machine? If the dishes arent clean I will run it again just for the fun of it.

This is a lower-end model that apparently doesn't have the larger-base agitator.  The large-base agitator covers the perforations in bottom of the basket, this machine's agitator doesn't.

It has a 1-speed motor per the feature-spec sticker.

V indicates 1989 model-year.  The serial will of course confirm the manufacture year and week.

Nice Washer

I was wondering about the agitation speed, but as the agitator is a regular sized base, it is probably the rapid stroke of a basic Whirlpool.

Nice find!

1989 is "vintage" now?

Because it feels like it was week before last!
