A while back I posted about the 1969 KDS-16 that I am refurbishing. It's almost ready to come upstairs and I am looking for/trying to decide what to use for a countertop on the top of it. I have had any number of thoughts and my searches on local Craigs list for free/very cheap old portables for scrap have turned up nothing. Having a new piece of custom-made formica made at HD would run me in the $75-100 range and butcher block would be more....
The beauty of these older KA dishwashers is that there are supported by steel/iron frame that I don;t think would require any additional support to set a countertop on top of the frame and use it for light duty work. So...does anyone have a portable parts machine with its countertop or a spare countertop that they would be willing to give/sell me at a reasonable price? Not really looking to spend more than about $50 with shipping. If all else fails I may just end up using a piece scrap plywood with some scrap linoleum on it! Thanks for the consideration. Mark. |

I got a great cabinet at Ikea to enclose my KDS22. It has a cutting board top on it and perfectly encloses the machine. I put some heavy metal wheels on it and find it quite convenient when I need to move it when a second dishwasher is needed at the holidays or for a big party. Sorry but I do not have the name of the line it was from. I think it was from the "Varde" line but not sure.

I may still have a wood top from a KA portable I parted out some some time ago. I just couldn't toss it . I'll look this week when I'm over at the storage unit.
The other thing I thought of is that Home Depot sells pine wood table tops, unfinished, for a very reasonable price. I bought a 24x48" piece for around $30. |
