What? Again? Another set of vintage machines has gone 'walkies' from the Ogden Laundry! Hubby couldn't have been responsible for this one (there was way too much snow here and the driveway wasn't opened until late Thursday night). And I didn't 'forget' that they were being serviced, 'cause they didn't need service..
So where could the showroom-condition Maytags have gotten to? Who can help me solve this March Maytag Mystery?? |

Andy, John - wow! I never thought that the fabulous Lady K would cause that much discord... Come to think of it, the 51 Kenmore DID seem to think it was going to get put out to pasture, but got over that quickly!
Phil - that really is suspicious - the Kijiji ad photo looks like it was taken in MY laundry room. And as for Mr. Maytag Hater - his policy was 'No Maytags in the new addition' - I should look there again, just in case... Hmmmm, they've got to turn up somewhere! |

But not here. Another thread, John. Another thread. One does not highjack the thread of a great detective trying to solve a missing persons case with futile Kenmore proaganda. But, one could not help but wonder if the Maytag set was adopted out because Paul wanted to have washers that ACTUALLY needed work so he'd have something to do. Sorry, Paul, I digressed...
So, Inspector Clouseau, a clue in the picture, huh? Well, the ladder would tell me that you finally ran out of room and hubby put them on the roof although I would imagine that it was a real pia to get that handtruck up the ladder. Or, the paint brush on the shelf tells me that you finally painted them turquoise and they're drying. On the THIRD hand, you threatened to sell this set in late 2012 to make room. Did the Turquoisedude adoption agency find a suitable family? Hmmmm, tis a great mystery you've handed us... RCD |

Paul,
I think Chris placed an ad in French on Kijiji so you wouldn't see it and then a department store in Sherbrooke got them to use as a display beside a Belanger range and a Coldspot fridge (strange brand choice for an independent store as it must have been originally sold at Sears, not at their store!). Well I guess as long as it doesn't say Kenmore, most customers won't notice!
See how the washer/dryer set looks like yours! |

I had been approached by this fellow François (he runs a vintage range and refrigerator restoration business in Sherbrooke) a while back about the possibility of loaning some appliances to a furniture store that is celebrating their 50th year in business. I sent him photos of several of my sets; the store in question is heavy on the Maytag line, so they HAD to have the 'Tags for a display that will be in the store as part of an ongoing promotion.
While I did try to sell the set earlier this year to make room for future additions (Turquoise LK dryer, 57 GEs, and the 51 Kenmore dryer) I am glad I didn't! The store is supposed to be mentioning my name in their advertising campaigns and on their website, so someone around here may be interested in my services for vintage laundry appliances or dishwashers. We'll see how that goes, but it will be an interesting experiment! Oh and do be assured that I jury-rigged the machines so that when plugged in, only the console lights will work! |
