I went into my local Currys store the other day and saw an AEG Protex with a see thru side panel. I was interested so took a look. I could clearly see that the tub was completely sealed just like the Zanussi Flexi Dose machine I had previously so I was intruiged to see if my Zanussi Jetsystem ZWH7122J that I purchased for £275 from John Lewis in Sept 2012 had a sealed tub too.

I decided to take a look underneath when I was painting the kitchen. I could see its a twin screwed type so its possible to carry out a bearing change or remove a stuck item from the tub assembly, if need be.

What I don't quite understand is, why would the cheap machine that I have, have the split tub and the more expensive 'premium' AEG have the sealed type? I would have thought its more expensive for Electrolux to still produce the split type? Just curious.

Some pics below of the Zanussi Jetsystem tub/insides. Sorry these are upside down but you get to see inside the machine.

Welling Motor Intead of the usual Sole ones they used to use. The Welling ones are used by Indesit Company too are seem robust. I think they are made on China.

I'd guess that the most plausible explanation is that the ZWH7122J belongs to the previous generation of Electrolux washers, whereas the other machines you mentioned (i.e. the AEG Protex ones) belong to the new generation of Electrolux washers.

From my experience there's one obvious visual sign on the sides of shell of the machine which may be used to identify whether the machine belongs to the previous or the new generation - if it has three vertical indents, it's the old generation of washers (and it *might* have a split tub, though that's not always the case), but if it has several horizontal indents it belongs to the new generation, which as far as I know is pretty much guaranteed to have a sealed tub.

I'm guessing that your ZWH7122J has the three vertical indents (certainly looks like it in the picture)?

Another way of checking whether an Electrolux washer has a sealed tub without taking the lid off the machine is to find the product no of the washer (if you're just thinking of buying it and don't have the product no, just search for the owner's manual on the Electrolux website and you'll get the 9-digit product no), and then consult the exploded parts diagram on the spares section of the Electrolux website.

Since all the production was moved to the ex-REX/Zanussi plants in Italy none of the machine made by Electrolux have split tubs, they are all welded, from the 259€ Zanussi/Zoppas machines to the most expensive 1000€+ REX/AEG ones.

All in all I wouldn't get one.

And yes, Welling is Chinese while SOLE is an Italo/American company.
The motors are quite durable ad if you look under the skirt half of the machine in circulation in Europe use them! But those motors are in general not serviceable unless only a carbon brushes change is needed, a shame!

Yes this machine has 3 indents in the side so is def from the previous generation. This one appears to be more robust than the 'newer generation' Zanussi's.

This machine was made in 2012 and purchased in Sept 2012 so Electrolux do still produce split type tubs and all the other Jetsystem models with Invertor motors all use split tub assembles. Perhaps they will stop all together once they have stopped producing these machines?! Who knows.

Hi Splitub,
Please could you provide a link to the electrolux website where they provide free exploaded diagrams.
My understanding is they have changed the site now and that facility is not available.
Many thanks

Just checked site again and no exploaded diagrams are there now.

what a shame. :(

@bertrum: Seems you're right, I wasn't aware that Electrolux had changed the site. I suppose it's still possible to check whether the tub is sold in one or two parts, but it's a lot more difficult than just a quick look at an exploded parts diagram.

I wonder whether there's an element of damage control in the decision to remove the diagrams...
