I have a question and I'm sure you guys have a better idea about this than I do. I'm going to get a transmission for my Direct Drive KitchenAid washer and hope it stops that loud clunking-- It's not hurting anything, but I'm tired of listening to it. I know some of you say its normal, but my mother and Aunts KA washers don't make that loud clunk.

Someone told me they thought I'd be better off buying an older used transmission than a brand new one (OEM Part). Is Whirlpool taking shortcuts now on their OEM Replacement Parts. I can get a New OEM Transmission online for about $140--$150. I've always opted to buy new parts and not used or refurbished ones. Their is a business on Ebay that re-builds them and has their own Custom oil made that they claim holds up better than what Whirlpool uses and makes their gearcases as good or better than new ones-- they are about the same price as a brand new OEM Part too

Any ideas?

New Transmission For A WP Built DD Washer

Get the new one for $140-150 unless you can find a much better deal on a rebuilt one or a good used one, on a used or rebuilt one insist on at least a 1 year warranty if it cost more than $50.

Ordered a New One

Thank-you for your advice. I always try to buy from local small dealers, but the one here was so much more expensive. They wanted $242 for a new transmission but I found one from an online dealer for $132. Both are OEM FSP Parts.

Ebay Seller

I bought a "refurbished" DD transmission from this Canadian seller about six months ago. I have no complaints about the transmission, it seems to run like new. I would go to them again if I needed another one.

Good link Toby, I diffidently support the idea of a good rebuilt unit where available and have also had good luck with them.
