That APEX portable dishwasher has to be the rare thing to find. It was totally different from the permanently installed dishwasher, filled once for the entire cycle, heated the water for the wash and the rinses and used a pump and wash arm instead of an impeller. It also used fiberglass for the machine lid, which probably made it increasingly fragile as it aged as well as rare.

Filled once? Was there a holding tank for the rinse water, then? Makes sense, it could be heated while the wash cycle was running. Was the wash cycle as long as the impeller-machine cycles? I liked that part, but then only one rinse was a bit of a let-down.

Yes, Greg, once you filled the heater tank, the machine did not have to be connected to the water for the rest of the cycle. Washing did not start until the water was heated to the proper washing temperature then it continued heating the rinse water to higher temperatures. I guess there was a pump that moved it from the water heater tank to the wash chamber since there was no water line pressure involved. Later models of the impeller machine went to two rinses and the portable gave two rinses, I believe. CU stated in testing of the original builtin or permanently installed model that performance improved by giving the load a second rinse.
