I'll be the 1st 2 say how nice this looks, the control panel is like a cross between a AEG Protex and a Servis Quartz and it shouldn't take long 4 that 2 reach British shores lol :)

I hope they do sell this machine in the uk, its looks sexy, and i see what you mean, about the AEG protex & servis quartz, these machines would sell like crazy, how much do you think roughly though?

Grundig seem to 'have it taped'...

The only Grundig I ever owned ran at 3 3/4 inches per second..... ;)

I suppose they are an 'industrial giant' that we just don't see that much of here in the U.K...

Nice looking machine, though...

All best

The machine doesn't look too bad, but there are a number of points that really put me off it:

  • The bezel around the door (esp. bottom) is ridiculous - such a large amount of metal would look disastrous in any laundry, I think
  • The control panel is too cluttered. The one thing that I really hate about British washers (or some Euro models) is a front panel full of numbers and letters trying to tell you all the different cycles. How about a control knob OR a scrollable menu on the screen (Because it is big enough)
  • Who could put a poor teddy in a machine that uses so little water?! Excuse me while I send them a nasty letter

All else aside, its a pretty smart looking machine. I like the large display and the stainless (or stainless plastic) buttons with all the symbols to choose options. Perhaps it is one of those things that taste as good as they smell (Wash as well as they look, would be correct in this situation)

Fascias

For a young one (if you are) you sure have rub in ya face opinions, theres a bit much of it on here lately, "I like/dont like and Stuff and Nonsense everyone else" !!

Hate is a strong word and not really required in the context of a washer fascia, Each to their own, I love the numbers and letters and as for large fascia, "I approve" and as some fascias go -

"Thats Not Cluttered At All" and dont bother with the letter, waste of ink, use it on your schoolbooks and design us a new fascia!!

Gorenje One - looks like metal fascias are back!!

Funny because Grundig was TV's and Hi-Fi and that 70's look was all metal fascias, what goes around comes around!!

Just oozes 1970's video recorder to me....

....and, as far as I am concerned, it looks great!

Its really nice to see all these new designs coming onto the market, harking back to yesteryear, with tasteful amounts of chrome and brushed aluminium.

The new Electrolux's.
The new Gorenje's.
Now these new Grundig's too!

I really hope that they make it to the UK!

Paul

I'm going to ride right off the rails here (So avoid this post if you don't like rambles) and "take the bait."

Firstly, I am entitled to my own opinions. I'm the sort of person who is quite OCD about the way things are done, so my attitude (as I've said on here before) is "My way, or the highway." If I come across as perhaps a bit pushy, then so be it. But I don't recall any occasion on here where I've told someone else they can stick their opinions. My style of writing and speaking has been accepted on here for the past year - so I'm certainly not going to change my language for the sake of one person.

Secondly, if my opinions seem "Rub in ya face," then I suggest you read some other threads. I'm not the only one with such "extreme" points of view, and I'm certainly not naming others with them. I suggest you hunt around for some of these posts, because they are there. Using the word hate may not be appropriate in such a context, but we are all entitled to a mistake here or there. I know that others have used the word on some occasion, and whether or not you use more polite terms, people still end up thinking you "hate" this, that or the other, so I don't always articulate if I feel strongly about something. Plain and simple.

Thirdly, I encourage you to (and others) to message me or contact Robert if they have trouble with the way that I am "speaking" on here. I don't appreciate people voicing those sorts of opinions to a group and your concerns are better addressed privately to myself (or Robert).

Was needing to get that off my chest

70's video in more ways than one, you are so right there Paul, by the 80`s it was al brown with the Grundig 2000 tape vcr's..

Louis the heat pump looks nice, it still has a classic look rather than an add on technology look.

Grundig Washing....

How would you all feel about having the name "Grundig" on your laundry appliances after them being associated with brown goods for all these years?

And a "matching set" with glass doors!!

Not going to be sold under Beko name for sure ;)

neither Blomberg.

Grundig brand became part of the Beko corporation, and so far, this top of their range line will be going to be "Grundig only". As you could see "high end" of the company :)

Arcelik and Beko already launched new line of machines (image). To me they look like a mix of new Gorenje's and Electrolux's in design :)

Dex

P.S
Do you guys notice that in all corporations like Arcelik, Indesit Company, Candy Group, Electrolux group etc. the premium and "most advanced" brand is not actually the brand which group was formed around of. In the Arcelik - Grundig is more advanced than Arcelik washing machines, Hotpoints are more advanced than Indesit, Hoovers are more advanced than Candy's, AEG's are more advanced than Electrolux's and so on..does anybody know why?

Branding.....

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hello Dejan, you make a very interesting point about brand positioning, its all in the name - and thats why companies specialise in buying brands to enhance their portfolio - or to control them or to remove them completely as their competition!!

It looks like its going to be a very exciting year for "new laundry products" if only in styling!! Would you buy one with Grundig as the badge?

I like how Grundig have taken the time to promote their new messages and marketing with the videos etc....

I would deffinately try them.

I am really curious to see how they work. When I read all the functions, they seem to be a fair progress.
Until I see how they work, I wouldn't say anything, because I got "betrayed" by the smart looks of some washing machines, that looked great, had all the displays and buttons, but indeed were dumb so much some old mechanical ones had better programming solutions than them.

Really nice to see how that small move was made :)

It is indeed odd to see the name Grundig on appliances. We had a few Grundig tv's and radios from Grundig in the past. It used to be a typical brown good name.

Post# 675421 , Reply# 20   4/25/2013 at 11:24 (4,011 days old) by hoovermatic (UK)

I think it looks good - I haven't yet read up about them but given that we choose a lot of things on looks alone I think it stands out and I would consider it. I don't find the facia as cluttered as some I have seen. Personally, I am not keen on everything being spelled out on the facia - I prefer symbols, the more obscure the better. As long as I know what they mean that is all that matters - don't nobody use my washing machine unless under very close supervision! As for the Grundig name, I do associate it with brown goods and pretty low end as well so I would have to overcome my own prejudices...................

Grundig

I noticed around Christmas 2012, that a discount chain store was selling Grundig Foodmixers in black & steel. They looked similar to Kenwood Chefs.

I see that Tefal has also branched out into the Kenwood Chef market.

Grundig went bankrupt in 2003, and Koç/Arçelik (the Turks who make Beko) ended up buying the remains.

So Grundig is no longer German, but Turkish. Don't expect that to be highlighted as a sales argument any time soon, but for informed buyers it's nice to know...

I love the design of the Grundig. It does look like the evolution of the Servis quartz and possibly what it may have looked like today had it been carried on. I would buy one anyway.

I think over here they were known for their shortwave radios and stereos. I may have even seen a Grundig TV once.

I like how they showed how they filmed that commercial, but that camera on the boom is huge. Do you think it still is film??

Its also nice to see they've gotten away from that green florolumonescent screen technology behind a green or brown gel.

Infact, the STYLING is good. Has anybody recognized that the buttons on the left under the display look like some the older Bosch-modells (these with the buttons you pres and they saty in until you pres them again), the knob itself looks more like the newer Bosch, the middle display over the knob was first used by Samsung here in europe (but as time display). So, in my opinion, a quiet style-mixing machine.
BUT if I read A+++-35% and NO water-spray-tech, i would say, these machines will also work kind of BSH. And in i think they work pretty bad (rinseresults, drum size, cycle-times, temperature).
But does anybody now if the dryer reversers? If, that would be on BIG advantage for all custumers.

This is another case of some company buying out the no longer used brand name and slapping it on new products. Remember Packard-Bell computers? Same thing. How long did those last in the U.S.?

Dave886,

Your opening message with the pic, the style looks like a cross between my Servis quartz 6036G (ZodaWash's old Servis) & my Bosch Logixx WFT2800.

I say this, because both the Quartz & the Logixx use piano key selection buttons, which's what this Grundig sports, from your pic.
