Continuing the repair of my Kitchenaid (by Hobart) KDI-18.

Cleaned all the brown gook away from the well, and discovered one area under the pump mount gasket with 3 small holes. Another area has a large pit, and some blush rust on the opposite side, so there must be micro-cracks there.

The locations do not seem to be where the motor clamps are located.

Thinking of using JB Weld epoxy, and maybe a strip of fiberglass as well. Then enamel touch up paint on the inside.

Any tips? I don't think these areas were leaking; being filled with rust & goop and under the gasket.

The large pit (1/3" dia) is black -- must have corroded without any excess oxygen present.
